It makes no difference, lol, like you're acting like there is some way to save face if this McDavid/Draisaitl era goes side ways ... there isn't. There is no lip stick you can put on that pig. It's like OJ Simpson wondering what he can do PR wise to improve his image ... dude, that ship sailed a long time ago.

They have to go all in on next season, make the playoffs, and have some success.

That's all there is to it.

And you know what, frankly I think that's good. This team needs a fire lit under their ass, this whole bullshit about "lets just keep our 1st and everything will work out" is garbage management. They need to be slapped hard in the face and sober up and build a proper team for the first time since 2006, which was the last time they had any urgency to do f*** all as management.

Lowe worked his ASS off that year because he had to justify to EIG the spending and the promises of how the Oilers would be good if they had a salary cap. He added Pronger, Peca, Spacek, Samsonov, Roloson ... that's FIVE major roster additions.
This might be your most delusional post ever. There’s absolutely no comparison to where the team was going into the 2005-06 season and where they are now. How can you not know this?

This was the first season the NHL operated with a salary cap. Several teams needed to shed 10’s of millions in salary to fit under the cap and were giving away star players for pennies on the dollar to the few teams who had available cap space to take them on of which we were one of them. That’s how Lowe was able to improve that team so quickly. It’s not that he was a star GM, that myth was busted the following season when the new system had balanced itself out.

There are no teams giving away star players for nothing in 2023 and even if there were, we can’t pay for them. For better or worse, this is what this team is now, today. There is no fixing it anymore to please McDavid or Draisaitl in 2023. This season is the time to find out what Draisaitl’s plans are moving forward. I hope he wants to re-sign this summer but if he doesn’t, you’ve gotta trade him.

I agree and dont consider the Hyman goal luck. Bouchard started it by idiotically turning it over, McDavid continued it with another dumb/lazy turnover, then Ekholm decided to not take a look before launching it at Hyman. Then Pickard capped it off with allowing a very savable shot.

Pretty much no other team has that many instances of straight up preventable stupid happen in a row like that. Just us.
Yup.
To add to that McDavid blew the zone early looking for offence. This team is its own worst enemy.
