Just for fan, I decided to put together a team with best Czech and Slovak players. Let´s pretend Czechoslovia still exists! Here´s my team:

Goal: Tomas Vokoun, Roman Turek

Defense: Zdeno Chara, Roman Hamrlik, Pavel Kubina, Jiri Slegr, Lubomir Vishnovsky, Jaroslav Spacek, Tomas Kaberle, Marek Zidlicky

On reserve: Frantiset Kaberle, Josef Melichar, Rosty Klesla, Jaroslav Modry,

Forwards: Patrik Elias, Marian Hossa, Jaromir Jagr, Zigmund Palffy, Pavol Demitra, Martin Straka, Josef Stumpel, Marian Gaborik, Petr Sykora, Martin Havlat, Josef Vasicek, Ladislav Nagy

On reserve: Radek Bonk, Radek Dvorak, Ales Hemsky, Miroslav Satan, Jan Hrdina, Vaclav Prospal, Michal Handzus, Martin Rucinsky, Marek Svatos, Richard Zednik, Jan Hlavac

Hmmm, I think this is a pretty decent team

Could you imagine them playing in olympics with big ice? Is there a team in the world capable of defeating them?

Scary looking team. But hey, Sweden and Finland used to be the same country too. A swedish/finnish team would be pretty darn good.

Good thing that they split the Czechoslovakia up. Spread the wealth!

I'm all for a Team Quebec too ;)

Or, think if Finland still belonged to Russia or Sweden. Or if Finland would have already belonged to Russia and then they would have taken over Sweden.

I was waiting for this thread. It had to pop up.

I think this is a different case compared to Sweden-Finland, because Czechoslovakia split up in 1993, but Finland and Sweden haven´t been united for several centuries.

yeah, well um...before Eric the Red, Leif Ericsson, Christopher Columbus, the Pilgrims....before any of those guys came here...Canada and the United States were basically one big country, filled with indigenous people! Could you imagine if there were a Canadian-American SUPERTEAM? Scary! :D

decent....indeed...on paper
they wouldn't be as good as you think....last couple of years they played together there were even couple of fights in dressing room on iternational tournaments (isvestija) because of the great slovak-czech atmosphere.
i think in preset days that would be even worst than it was before 93

im happy we have our own slovak team

and to your question:
yes canada could defeat any team...even suomi-tre kronor-slovak-czech-mcdonalds-together...imo

I wouldn't be suprised to see Lasak make the cut instead of Turek. He is usually incredible for Slovakia in international play. He doesn't have the NHL resume, but he sure has the international one.

That Czecheslovak team is flashy as hell but am I the only one that thinks it may be a little soft compared to some other national squads? There are only a few players on this list who are known to be able to play effectively in a close-checking game.

Nice team.. I would replace Nurminen with Lehtonen. Also Modin has no place on this team.. I'd still put Selanne on the 2nd-line, move Lehtinen to the 3rd-line.

What about adding Hejduk and Lang plus dressing Satan and scratch Vasicek, Stumpel to make it more decent??

Let’s see, a quick try:

Vokoun

Chara - Hamrlik
T.Kaberle - Kubina
Zidlicky - Spacek

Elias - Palffy - Hossa
Gaborik – Demitra - Hejduk
Straka – Lang – Jagr
Nagy – Satan – Havlat

On reserve: Handzus, Sykora , Bonk. If necessary ( defending a lead or on smaller ice ) put Handzus centering the 4th line and Satan in place for Straka as left winger on the 3rd line.

Yeah, a decent team i would say, especially on the wings! :yo:

Seriously , i think the interesting thing is that until the 2 countries were together they never had such a talented team; that suggests what an impressive development there have been there in hockey in the last decade!
