There aren't any try-outs. You either get picked for the team, or you don't.

That said, I think Spezza will of course get some consideration. I can't say for sure if he will make the final team though.

Team Canada will already have all of the following centres: Lemieux, Sakic, Thornton, Lecavalier, and Richards. Plus, Yzerman has been promised a spot, and you also have to figure one defensive specialist (Draper, Peca, Primeau, etc.) will get taken.

That is 7 centres that I named right there. Now true some of them can play the wing. But even so, Spezza will be facing a log-jam at centre, all against proven players who have good track records with Team Canada.

The best way for Spezza to make the team is continue to distance himself from Lecavalier and Richards in the scoring race. He may be able to bump one of them off the team if he could be about 10-15 points ahead of them by the time the team is picked.
