This is perhaps one of the best games that I may see live in action. Tonight at the Corel Centre there will be an inter-squad matchup with the Reds versus the whites. The duckets were going for only $7 with the proceeds going to Roger's House (Roger Neilson).

It's scheduled for only 2 hours 6-8PM but it should show some spirited hockey as some of the players try to slot themselves into a higher position on the roster.

Gonna try to post some pics if they let me in with my digi-cam. Anybody else going??

Do you know whose on the Red side and whose on the White side? :dunno:

Hopefully Mario plays for the people watching at the Corel Centre

not to be picky, but isn't it an intra-squad matchup?

HAS ANYONE SEEN THE GAMES? cuz it ain't on tsn.ca or anywhere else I've been looking... Love to know who did well, what lines, what goalies... With Luongo's failure last night, you would think he is on the hot seat to lose the no2 spot to Theodore. Also curious to know if the Jovo-Brewer duo got spilt up.

To summarize... it was the best 7 bucks I ever spent!!!

They played for roughly 2 hours. First they ran drills as they were split between 4 groups. They did breakout drills, 3 on 3 and so on. Then they played a 20 minute red vs white match. 10 minutes were 5 on 5 with the last 10 minutes 3 on 3. That was followed by a shootout. It was awesome to see all that talent in one spot at one time!!

    Highlights.

-Super Mario was skating great. Any rumors of injury should be dispelled. One play while cruising into the corner, he magically passed behind his back to an open Brad Richards in the slot, who almost scored on Theo. The guy still has it! He was also playing well with Lecavalier on line combos.

-Saw alot of Heatley and Iginla together on line combos. They seemed to carry the play for much of the 5 on 5 portion of the match. Iginla scored just outside the crease on a helpless Theodore. A line to watch for.

    - Adam Foote looks rock solid on D. I think we will have to rely on him to hold the fort. He was skating very well. Most of the D corp seems more offensive minded as Hannan skated up into the play an several occasions as well did Niedermayer.

    - Final score was Reds 2 Whites 3. Sorry Habs fans but Theodore was in on all 5 goals... but i wouldn't fault him on any of them as they were all either a result of nice 2 on 1's or a gift in the low slot to a waiting forward. Theo did make some stellar saves that brought cheers from the crowd. Luongo looked steady as he made some great saves and looked a little less nervous than he did in the exhibition against the US.

-But by far, Brodeur looked like the obvious #1. He made one "Hasekian" save when he was belly down on the crease and then flipped over, arms flying. As he wheeled over, he brought his arms to the ice on the short side and stopped Iginla on what would have been surely a goal. Later on he let in a softy from Wade Redden during the shootout for the hometown crowds. The guy is all class!

Overall they looked sharp and carried alot of speed. They still seem a little unsettled on final line combos but I think the next few exhibitions should iron out those wrinkles. 8000 showed up and raised $30,000 for Roger Neilson House for children with cancer. A great cause indeed. All in all very entertaining!

Yes, they were on the white team and played with "Bard" Richards. My typing skills need practice. Thanks for catching that!

I watched the replay of Mario's backhand pass about 100 times in slow motion and I still can't understand it...

How the heck is that possible? How could he have seen that player coming and know where he was going to be? He wasn't even looking...

    :dunno:

    I don't get it.

There's only 2 guys in the world who can do that....Mario and Wayne.

I was there, it was pretty entertaining. I'll agree with the comments on Mario, he looked pretty good, but he still needs to shake off some rust (had trouble carrying the puck at least once) but I saw nothing but promise in his skating.

Also, Rheger and Jovo were paired together alot of the night. I'd love to see that combo, punnishing.

Man, every line looked good, there's just so much skill on that team.

Whoever said that only Mario and Wayne could have made that pass is bang on.....I still can't believe it...it was magical and one of the greatest passes ive ever seen.
Pretty much goes with the save by Brodeur....

Someone also asked about Richards and Regehr.

Richards looked pretty good, he has a nice knack for making plays...he set up nice deep cross ice feed to the far post for someone who tapped it in nice and easy.

Regehr was absolutely brutal. Easily the worst player on the ice (i wasn't looking for him but he stuck out everytime there was an awkward or poor play he seemed responsible for it). He looked slow, out of position and generally confused. Maybe he jsut had a horrible practice, but he had trouble taking passes, hitting guys with passes.....
There is no way they can play this guy if that's what he's got to give.

We'll see tonight if he's any better but fankly i couldn't believe how bad he looked.

I think ALOT of that can be contributed to the fact he's never played at this level - even if it was just a practise game, there is still nothing but super-star after super-star on the ice, alot of time the physical/stay at home defensmen can't translate their success to those kinds of situations, IMO. That's what makes Foote so great IMO.
