Had Canada won a medal today like they should have (stupid DQ), Canada would have had 20 medals. as it stands we have 19 - on day eleven. We had 26 overall in Sochi.

we're 4 gold off the pace from Sochi
we're 5 off the pace of our silver haul
and matched the bronze total.

pretty damned good.

It's not a guarantee to beat Sochi because the medals in curling and men's hockey aren't a guarantee either.

Things were looking really good to break 30 a few days ago.

Have to admit though, losing to the US in both hockey and curling is upsetting. Those are supposed to be our wins.

I blame Homan for everything. Bad curling etiquette, chokes in the round robin, spreads bad karma everywhere, she was at the Gold Medal game between Canada/US too...

Get her and her bad vibes as far away from the rest of Team Canada as possible...

 it's Homan's fault! i can live with that.
(I still don't blame her for moving the burnt rock, it's in the rules, but eh).

honestly. my issue with the gold medal game is that Canada made bad decisions.
not impressed with taking 6 d men (they were tanked it was so obvious)
after sochi, it was clear Canada is slower than USA and you take more slow player. (it's like Can Men's team doubling down after the Torino series and going "it will be okay). they were lucky that they won in Sochi and it burned them now.

and that's what happened with curling.

the lover of sport is glad there's a new winner.
but the cranky Canadian wishes if we were gonna lose it would have been because we were at our very best and i don't believe that was the case.

Couldn't agree more. I've been saying the American women were getting faster than us for a long time now. I'm surprised we held up in Sochi but this time it finally caught up to us.

and you see it every world championships. like. honestly, i'm glad we lost. (I mean. it sucks that we lost over a bad bad BAD linechange and the shootout but still) but i think this should force Hockey Canada to make some serious decisions. I think they were living off the 'We have 4 gold medals" hog way too long. So, okay that's over. let's look at the clear cold truth.

We haven't won a world championship in what? 6 years? (and before that, we hadn't won a lot of them ever)
We are slow.
there are a lot of members of the 2006 team on the 2018 team Canada. (aka: we 're old).
USA has had the same coach for blocks of time. it seems like Canada changes their coach every year

we need to be faster, we need to be younger and we need to be consistent.

I don't mind changing coaches, but Schuler was an idiot. Can't coach like Jacques Martin did (timid and passive) and expect that to work come playoff (elimination game) time.

The cold hard truth is that Poulin is overrated. She's opportunistic but not particularly dynamic. Their best player (besides Szabados) was Daoust. And they probably need 4 or 5 more Daoust's.

oooh interesting.
Why do you think so? like i know a gazillion people think she's Crosby.
(but i do agree- Daoust is was the real MVP (skater wise))

It's a bad comparison. Poulin isn't anywhere near as dominating as Crosby is in the men's game. CBC started going off on that comparison back in 2010 and ever since it has somehow stuck. To her credit though, she is extremely opportunistic and did score some of the biggest goals for Canada on the Olympic stage the last 8 years. She has one of the best shots in the women's game and can stickhandle with the best of them too.

But Daoust is simply a better skater and has similar skill.

Daoust barely made the team and HC deemed she was too slow and played in inferior league...

I'm strangely optimistic about Men's Big Air and I think it's possible we come out with 2 medals there.

4 man bobsled too.

Alex Harvey not medalling in the 50km would qualify as a CHOKE.

Actually, I will go one further. Not contending for Gold coming into the final couple kms would be a CHOKE.
