TB and NY has made a few deadline deals with each other over the recent years. This deadline in particular could see a repeat because the NYR are a little invested in TB this year. I don't think it should surprise anybody to see them do another deal soon. Either by helping TBs chances or by getting the 1st rounder guaranteed no matter if they win the cup or not. So NYR fans, do you see another deal between the two teams happening again? If so, what type of deal do you see happening or would you like to see?

Cant see another deal being done becaue your 4th line depth is so elite it cant be improved. ;)

All seriousness, the premise there isnt bad, but im not sure what Rangers would realistically be willing to offer up. Id imagine part of the deal would help to have Tampa alleviate cap issues for next year..?

If they do make a deal, similar stuff in general I'd think, Rangers are looking for picks/prospects, they have cap space this year and next to take on a cap hit or two, within reason as long as the extras attached make it worthwhile.

Given Tampa is pretty set roster wise so it seems, I'm not too sure who'd they realistically be looking to acquire from the Rangers.

Agree. Its just interesting to ponder. Dont know how much we would be looking at guys like Hayes or Zuccarello but I doubt we are.

I don't think Hayes or Zuc make much sense for the Lightning. If they do hook up for a deal I don't think it's in a traditional sense.

Not sure if Callahan would waive mid season to move from Tampa to NY, but maybe something like this makes sense...

    To Tampa Bay: Future Considerations
To NY Rangers: Ryan Callahan + Condition removed from 2019 pick (becomes a 1st) + something else

Tampa alleviates cap issues early, Callahan gets moved to a team/city he would (presumably) enjoy as opposed to being shipped off unceremoniously to X team in the off-season, and the Rangers add futures (and guarantee themselves another 1st in 2019).

I think the Rangers would like to make that conditional 2nd a guaranteed 1st, yet I am not sure what makes that happen.

I'm sure Tampa would probably like to remove the Callahan contract for next season from their cap, yet to me at least it seems like that should cost more than just making that pick guaranteed. Not sure how much more it should cost since the Rangers may get that anyway if Tampa wins the Cup, yet I am guessing that would at least be part of the conversation if there are conversations happening.

Maybe Tampa would be interested in McQuaid for righty depth. Rangers might take back Callahan for a bigger return.

the player who could add fit right into NYR scheme could be Cernak,
too bad they couldn't get him before he proved he is ready

there are guys like Lipanov and Katchouk who could appeal to NYR
(i get the impression others, like Foote and Radish, are off-limits )

I think you’re the only Ranger fan that’d want him back. I hated Miller

The one guy in NY who I think would be perfect in TB is Chris Kreider (we might even be able to afford him next year), but I'm guessing the price would be too high, and rightfully so.

I don’t know about the cap implications, but Chris Kreider would be a perfect fit next to Point and Kucherov.

Hah, I made my post before seeing this one. It doesn’t seem like anybody has really clicked as the F1 on that line for Tampa and Kreider is one of the best in the league at that role.

This has been discussed to death. Unless we’re planning on making a big move elsewhere there’s no reason to trade Callahan now, and most likely we’ll retain on him in the summer to minimize/eliminate the incentive required to move him. We don’t have a history of paying for rentals and we need all the cheap young talent we have for the cap crunch years to come. So I just don’t see a realistic basis for a deal here.

I could see Zucc being sent out and part of the deal is TB 1st becomes an unconditional 1st, as well as another piece. I'm a little unfamiliar with TB's prospect pool so I put Raddysh in as a placholder? Kind of.

    2019 1st (unconditional)
2020 3rd (becomes 2nd if TB wins cup or Zuccarello re-signs)
    Raddysh

Keep in mind a pick in 2019 is due to NYR no matter what.

Maybe there could be a way to modify the deal to include Callahan back to NYR... with retention or additional assets as needed.

Tampa doesn't really need to do anything though as their forwards are basically set. They'd need to lose a forward to add Zuccarello, or, if its Callahan, will need to sit Erne instead.

Offer I made above could be considered a little high, I'm open to suggestions

I liked Miller, yet I think his value is more than that of Namestnikov.

Kreider is a tough one to value and it is much debated on the Rangers board, some see him as more of a rental return twice over (me)

Others seem to see his value as way more than that.

It didn't hate him. I wished he would be more consistent, but I didn't hate him.

Anyway, that ship has sailed. Don't really want him back on that contract.

I mean if we're really going to get crazy why not just have Tampa go all in for like 2 years. Sergachev for Kreider + Skjei. Throw in Callahan or a cap dump from Tampa to make the salary work, but that seems like it could work for everyone since NY seems open to moving Skjei.

Aren’t the Rangers tired of being owned by the Lightning in trades? ;)

I think it qualifies as actual speculation. They did a deal last year with conditions on a cup this year. Means they are somewhat invested in how TB does. It shouldnt surprise anybody if there is a deal made between these two teams soon or even before the draft.

Yeah, there's just no way we'd pay that. I don't even think we could include Foote in a deal, considering we refused to add him to deals for better players than Kreider.

Like I said, I don't think we could pay the price NY would rightfully want, and could likely get elsewhere, so it's just wishful thinking. Just saying, he would fit. I don't think there's a realistic path to acquiring him. We need prospects for safety nets.

We already have four RD that we’ve been rotating to get everyone playing time. That isn’t an area of need for us.

Really? I mean you're getting Skjei as well while dumping Callahan. If anything it seems like it's rougher for the Rags as it's Skjei+Kreider for Sergachev and a cap dump.
