Seguin has his flaws and I will only ever harp on the return the Bruins got rather than the decision to trade him.. but he does has an incredible, pure talent.

Unless Tavares really does take off in Toronto I'd rather take Seguin.

Tavares. Seguin is one of the worst playoff performers of all time. Don't get it twisted, he looks good while playing though.

Every Leafs hater will vote Seguin.

Tavares is better, but I am a big fan of both.

I think Seguin is the more electric of the two, but JT plays a better all around game IMO while also producing the same level of offense. He's got two Hart trophy finalist seasons which is a level Seguin has never reached.

IMO both are overrated but Seguin is more overrated.

Last 2yrs ES

Seguin: A qoc, 1.96p/60, 1.55p1/60, -0.5cfrel, -0.8xgfrel
Tavares: A+ qoc, 2.06p/60, 1.56p1/60, +3.1cfrel, +2.8xgfrel

and tavares doesn't have Benn on his wing.

The fact that the Islanders were a top 8 offensive team last season. Meanwhile Dallas sat back at around #20 and had Ken "no offense is allowed" Hitchcock

Yeah cause they were a 1 line team... They stacked their best line and Tavares still outproduced him.

Comparing their entire careers, Tavares has the clear edge in goal scoring and production. This is mostly because of Seguin's time in boston. If we use only his Dallas stats. Then he averages 36 goals and 77 points. 3 more goals and 1 more point than Tavares.

In terms of award finishes, Tavares has also had selke finishes of 8, 25, 38, 46 while Seguin has had 38 and 41. Tavares has 2 3rd place hart finishes while Seguin has had a 6th. This is partly because Seguin plays with an equally productive linemate, and Tavares is unambiguously the best player on his team.

To summarize, Seguin has the edge in goal scoring and points when comparing their best years. Tavares has the clear edge in Hart finishes, Selke finishes and career production and goal scoring. My vote goes to him. But it's certainly close.

I'm interested to see how Tavares does now that he doesn't have any excuses about linemates.

Well, if his production does indeed stay the same or even falter, it could possibly be he's simply not the player he once was at ages 21-24 since he hasn't had a top 10 point finish since 2014 or a top 10 goal finish since 2015.
