I said in the pre-game thread that games against the Sens have been weird lately, and this game was another example.

For some reason the Sens seem to get all these weird bounces against us, the puck off of Zaitsev's mouth is a classic example of that.

Even when the Leafs get the lead or tie the game, the sens for some reason will come back and the game will always be uncomfortable.

That tying goal in the third was weird. The puck took a strange bounce in the air, leaving everyone standing still like they lost sight of it for a second, and it landed in a perfect spot for the Sens for a quick pass and tap in goal

The 2-13-4 Anaheim... Great... ;)

Also, you could make the argument that is the only game we played like that... Again, consistency has been an issue with this club.

It is objectively not the only game we played like that.

Certainly consistency is a problem, but no team is perfect. Even Tampa doesnt dominate every game.

Close games are always more exciting live, on the edge of your seat more.

Sort of like a bad American football game that comes down to a final kick, close score, but your feet feel asleep waiting for it.

Nikita Zaitsev was bad. So was the Matthews line.
on the Paajarvi goal that Burke was all over Zaitsev for

Gardiner basically fell down while trying to turn and hung Zaitsev out to dry

if your D partner continually hangs you out to dry, with poor(in the skates or behind you) or hesitant passes that allow the forechecker to be on you as soon as the puck hit's your stick, with blown coverages that you have to cover up for, makes life a little difficult.

When Gardiner was out Zaitsev looked very steady and highly competent pairing up with Dermott

Absolutely horrible performance.

Andersen was bad (the one early in the second that was called back was a good goal), as were most of them.

We won, but were badly outplayed, and did not deserve to.

The broadcast did not show it cross the line. Do you have access to what the refs see?

The most important stat is that we are still an undefeated team when leading after 40 minutes.
This team now knows how to close a game. This is what good teams do.

Last night was not a good example. Sens tied up the game quickly. It's not like they shut them down in the 3rd.

Yes, yes, yes.

Burkie blind to his own work.

Gardiner was also up near center ice, while the Leafs were on a line change. Perhaps he was forechecking?

You mean the completely uncovered Sens player with the easy tap-in?

They were atrocious in their defending, that's why the Senators were in the game.

Matthews line got filled in in shot attempts. Yikes. Andersen wasn't his steady self as well, flopping and giving up huge rebounds. We need him to be a lot better down the stretch.

Overall it was a fun game. Watched it from the pub so wasn't quite attentive as I usually am.

Time to add a Corsi beast to his line again. It might help.

The way Willy carries the puck in really makes me feel like he should be a Center. My thoughts are next year we should just play him as 3rd C trade Kadri for a top 4 dman.
Play Bracco and his awesome playmaking with Matthews.

Hyman Tavares Marner
Johnsson Matthews Bracco
Marleau :( Nylander Kapanen
Marchment Gauthier Moore

Yeah but to be an NHL centre you have to use your linemates effectively and get them the puck when they work themselves into scoring position. You also have to be quite physical to be an NHL centre, unless you're Gretzky.

Ever wonder why Willie has such high possession numbers? Carrying from your side of centre and then circling the opponents end 1 and a half times before you make the bad pass or inneffective shot gives you great numbers

Agreed.

I'll never criticize someone that works so ridiculously hard. It's not his talent. It's that he'll drop the gloves. He'll throw a hit. He's a beast on the boards. Surprised leaf nation doesn't like such a player.

Leaf Nation loves players like that. However a good portion of Leafs nation likes high end skill on the first line as well. Hyman doesn't quite check that box. Having Matthews and JT as our two centres means there really isn't a bonifide 1st line, so Hyman slotting in with one of those two isn't a bad thing. Glad he's starting to go on a tear.

I'd prefer Nylander to Brown any day, but that doesn't change the fact we are 26-0 when leading after 2 so something must be working the way that it is now.
We are also 1-14-2 when trailing after 2, third worst in the league.

it must've been pretty drunk out where you were last night, it was very apparent that the puck did not cross the line fully, the top angle was the best and it did not prove any different
