Super Series 80. Red Army team visited NHL for the second time. Here are the results:
CSKA 5 New York Rangers 2
CSKA 3 New York Islanders 2
CSKA 2 Montreal Canadiens 4
CSKA 1 Buffalo Sabres 6
CSKA 6 Quebec Nordiques 4
So, they lost 2 out of five ... I know that Red Army Team (CSKA) wasn't exactly Soviet National Team. But still ... they probably had 11-12 players from the National Team that a year earlier destroyed NHL during the Challenge Cup. So, I would have expected them to win at least four. But ...
And 1.5 month later the Miracle happened. I think something was wrong with the Soviet Team in the beginning of 1980.
Any thoughts?
P.S. Of course a year later they came strong again at World's 81 and Canada Cup 81.
