Vote :avs over :coyotes!

Simply put, our defense actually does their job of playing defense while the majority of theirs don't.

Secondly, our offense is full of strong two-way players in their prime while their offense features a number of has-been stars.

Vote Avs!

Eichel-Pasta is the most dynamic duo in the tournament. Our top 9 is dynamite. We are confident in our D group, any pair can be on the ice at any given time. They can bring the defense or push the offense. Andersen will be great for this team with that D group in front of him.

LETS GO KINGS

:leafs should eat :sens alive in this battle of Ontario. This isn't even my biased thoughts here's how I feel it'd go down:

Toronto's strengths:
Depths of elite forwards (having multiple throughout top 9 and an elite shut down line on line 4)
Best D in the game, really I think it is. And to top it off most have extensive playoff experience.
My goalies are elite and have both played big playoff minutes

Ottawa strengths:
1st line
Top 3 Cs

My full thoughts on matchup:
These Senators have a damn good first line, but is it even that much better than Gaudreau-Malkin-Svechnikov which Toronto could throw together? No. But instead Toronto spread their depth out to really rip through teams depth, with three extremely good scoring lines they'd excel in this matchup. Ottawas first line would really have to carry the load but they'll also be bearing down on Josi and McAvoy who are arguably one of the best top pairs here, and could easily hold their ground. Malkin line will have a tough matchup (though don't forge Rust went above a ppg this year too, he's no slouch) but with my top pair and them relying on Provorov/Spurgeon we should win it.

Even if not out comes Jonny Hockey/The Cowboy/Bjork and that will decimate his second line. Gaudreau is one of the games premier offensive weapons and Bjorkstrand turned into an elite trigger man and possession beast and Karlsson can go toe to toe with old man Toews on the dot. Toews had very mediocre possession numbers this year and both my wingers have a clear edge. Not to mention my second pair blows his out of the water with Theodore being a Norris contender this year and Fox going crazy on offence. Larsson is not a good NHL dman, it's simple really. If you want to call Theodore inexperienced know he carries the load in Vegas, has nearly 300 regular season games and nearly 50 playoff games, that's a hardened vet number, and Theodore is a beast.

Atkinson had 40 goals in other seasons, but if we want to play like that so did Parise, Hischier is a better NHL C than Dubois and Hornqvist has won multiple cups, while really showing up in the playoffs, this matchup really favours my line, but again my 3rd pair would walk his third pair, the D depth really pushes it.

His 4th line are all question marks right now whereas all of mine had great years and can play anywhere in the lineup on a real cup team, that edge is clear.

We both have a cup winner in the crease, but Holtby is faltering while Hellebuyck is blossoming and can carry a team, the crease battle should be crystal clear who has that edge.

So overall you could maybe give him line 1 though I don't believe it, but I'd take 2-4, 1-3 on D and my goalies are better by far. It's the power of depth and for that Toronto should handily win this matchup, dare I say sweep it. It's really quite unfortunate for Ottawa to run into this power house in round one because I quite liked the team, though they were't in my group of favourites.

Toronto should easily win matchup 1

Vote for Vegas over Edmonton! Both are great teams, so it’s sad to see one go in the first round, but I believe we have the more we’ll rounded and defensive team. It’s going to be tough scoring with last years Vezina, Selke, and Norris winner on my side.

As good as Vegas is, his offense doesn't come anywhere close to mine.
(Plus, our team doesn't have a single player below 6'1 except for the midget line, so....)

I have it on high authority that @LatvianTwist doesn't like ice cream.

Hot damn my Cs are Stamkos-Aho-Barzal-Stastny

I actually don’t like ice cream

Vote :stars

Our center depth is equally as good: Seguin - Hertl - Cirelli - Hayes

We also feel that we outclass Montreal at every winger position. Our defense is also superior (hint - they can actually play defense). And our biggest advantage is goaltending, where we have a top 3 starter while Montreal is starting a guy who could end up getting waived next offseason.

Matchup 2 thoughts:

I really love Arizona's team and they were in my favourites, but this was one of the worst possible matchups they could've gotten in round one for their build.

Pros:
Arizona:
Elite offensive weapons
Offensive blue line
C depth
Some nastiness

Colorado:
Elite 2 way team
C depth
Top 6 can all play wherever
Almost all had great years

Cons:
Arizona:
Will struggle in own zone for the most part
D is very run and gun and will get caught
Some players who had huge down years playing big roles

Colorado:
Will likely struggle to score
Depth on wings on lines 3/4 leaves more to be desired along with 4-6D in their roles
How good can Price be?

I like 2/3rds of Zona's top line unfortunately Skinner was brutal this year, and the top group on the other side should neutralize you, BUT I still think your top pair would skate theirs into the ground and take the edge in this matchup so I call both a wash. Colorados second line is better in both zones. I don't think Colorados third line can handle Arizonas, the players are good but not against elites like this, lots would be on Danault vs Staal. These 4th lines are extremely close, but I take Colorados simple due to it's ability to play up. I think Colorados 2nd pair is better but Arizonas 3rd pair, and I have big question marks about Price but both goalies have shown up in the playoffs and both have a young goalie so it's extremely close.

Overall this is one of the closest battles and a story of two very different and opposed teams matching up, my vote is very liquid on this one and will likely change a half dozen times before being final. I'll really need some convincing so for now it's 51% Colorado - 49% Arizona for me. It will likely keep changing as I read though

Vegas is a great team, but they will get both physically dominated and confused by our team. We don't have a single player under 6'1 except for our midget line. They'll get so focused on escaping hits that we'll let Yamamoto, Johnson, and Johnsson loose to sneak in some extra goals.

(In all seriousness though, we probably have the best offense in the game, as well as the best player in the entire NHL this year).

Landeskog - Draisaitl - Rantanen >>>>> Ehlers - Scheifele - R Smith
Lee - Kopitar - Wheeler >> Kreider - O'Rielly - Pavelski
Niederreiter - Johansen - Radulov >> Bertuzzi - Duchene - Josh Bailey

Match Up 3 thoughts:
Nooooooooo my London Knights team...
Boston Pros:
D is awesome
Great top 9 depth I actually don't know how you did this
Cs are all good

Islanders pros:
Familiarity
I think that top line could still be awesome
Again unreal depth and idk how
Defense

Boston cons:
I don't like your 4th line
you're going to get hit by me for having Bob
Vlasic is done

Islanders cons:
weak C depth (gourde... really?)
Question marks in goal

So at first glance I loved Boston and had them easily winning, but after looking close, I think NYI might actually have the edge on depth, though NYI gets docked BIG TIME for not having an elite C, so does Boston for Bobs season. This matchup is conflicting too. Ultimately, I love l1 on both but Bostons is just better at the NHL level for sure, same for L2, but L3 I have to take NYI and L 4 would be if not for Gourde, but Gourde is at C so Boston. D1 on both teams are about even for this season, but Bostons I prefer overall, same for D 2 but I'm actually taking NYI D3, and calling the goalies a wash as I wouldn't want either on my cup team for this year. Both have question marks related to their tandems for the playoffs. Ultimately I think Boston would win, but I can definitely be swayed again

Yep, that did it for me. I gave you the edge for that series.

I seriously wish we could swap around the 7 and 8 matchups. Both Vegas and Edmonton were some of my favourite teams, and no offense to the teams in matchup 8, but they were near the bottom. I feel like a really good team (potentially mine) could be out after the first round because of this.

We have The deeper team with a stronger top 9 and top 4, with better goaltending.
Umm, no, you don’t. My top line has elite scoring and playmaking. My 2nd line will destroy your youngsters. On the 3rd line Tuch will put your guys through the boards and I have the better Strome. Goalies? How many cups does your guy have? 0, and it’ll stay that way. Rangers kick Vancouver’s ass just like in ‘94.

Matchup 4 thoughts:
If I wanted to take out LA who would I want going against them, well, probably one of the top defensive teams up front. @Makaveli why'd you give yourself this matchup...
LA pros:
- Best line right now
- Solid C depth
- Decent top 6
- Solid if unspectacular D depth

Detroit pros:
- Positional versatility especially with Cs
- Defensive competence up front
- They'd be a pain (agitators)
- D depth has bug names

La cons:
- I really dont like your 4th line for this
- Andersen in clutch situations

Detroit cons:
- Your 4th line is just as bad in this
- How good can your goalies really be

Jeez this matchup sucks for both teams and honestly I really need to look at it closer and may change but LA is among my favourites:
La Line 1 > Detroit line 1 but I think Detroits top line has the defensive competence to actually negate LAs... it'd be really tight I'll still give LA the edge though. Playoff Crosby is the best player though.
LA line 2 > Detroit line 2... it's really not close, you're relying on people loving Wilson but unfortunately I feel he's a depth player for this comp, and I don't like burakovsky, but I loveeee Point
Detroit line 3 > LA line 3, so I don't like Buchnevich either and while LAs line 3 is strong Detroits line 3 will check LA into the ground and totally neutralize so Im going them the edge.
4th lines... I dont want to talk about either but I'm picking the line that has a bit more skill here, not the bangers trying to hold off David Pastrnak
D1... I call both a wash. I still love Karlsson and just dont think San Jose is his best fit.
D2... I'm still undecided because I prefer Detroit but it may simply be name value at this point and LAs had much better seasons
D3... they're almost the exact same, but I take LA simply because I think Chara will struggle against LA. Overall D is a wash for now until I'm convinced

G... I don't think either group wins it all, but I'd pick LAs as of now simply because I take the devil I know vs the devil I dont

LA has the edge for me for now but jeez these are so close man, it's brutal the teams that will bow out
