United's move for Boetang is all but off because Bayern want them to double their money. Also there's reports that Boetang to United is about to happen. Also there's reports that Alderweireld deal is all but done and Spurs are looking for a replacement. Also there's reports that Spurs want more money. Also there's reports that Maguire's deal is off because of City. So basically no one knows what the hell United is doing.

Edit: forgot one. After reports that he was staying at Lazio, United are now offering close to 140M for SMS.

And here there's a report Boateng really wants to sign with Tuchel's PSG rathern than Mou's United.

But PSG isn't that high on him apparently.

Umm that’s tough. I’d rather spend 80 on Kepa because he’s a good keeper than 35 on Butland who’s mediocre at best.
Right, better to overpay for quality than pay fair price for mediocre. Kepa was really the only option out there, and he could only be had for release clause at this point. Chelsea screwed up by not targeting him earlier, but even if we didn't pay the release clause, we would've been close to it.

Do I want Chelsea to spend 80m on a goalie? Hell no, but the consequences of not spending it could be much worse.

True, 35 for Butland isn't fair for his quality, it's including the English tax.
It's also for a sure thing. You know Butland can provide decent keeping in England, you aren't quite sure how a similar level keeper from another league will adapt. Better to go for high quality.

Matt Law is indicating that Kovacic will be included on loan. Said Chelsea budgeted an amount to add a keeper and midfielder, and Kovacic on loan allowed them to invest more money in a keeper to get Kepa. To me that means probably no Fekir or other attacker. Those links were probably dependent on Willian leaving.

At the end of the day you pay to get the target you want. If you want him bad enough you'll pony up the money, or 'settle' for someone that you didn't feel was your best option. We've all seen how that can turn out.
