Guite Trying to Establish Stability, Direction For Maine After Difficult Week
by Adam Wodon/Managing Editor
Ben Guite, Maine's assistant coach the last eight years and a player on the 1999 national championship team, was named the program's interim head coach today. He's stepping in for Red Gendron, who he's coached under since 2013, and who passed away suddenly last Friday at age 63.
Maine says it will be conducting a national search starting soon to find a permanent head coach, and that Guite is considered a strong candidate. The school must post the job, as a public institution, so it may be a formality. But there are also no shortage of quality candidates out there for Maine to turn to if it wants.
In addition to the numerous candidates out there without Maine connections, there are also other alums with strong credentials, too, who could be candidates if they are interested. ...

the update, JM...Glad to see you have finally embraced this "Summer 2021 NCAA Division I Hockey Thread," HUTCH.
Just learned of Red Gendron the other day, I'm floored, Best of luck Ben Guite.
yup, that's basically where it stands....Very sad, may he Rest In Peace.
That being said, interested to see where they go with the search. Not like there’s a ton of money (comparatively) but still a pretty good job and there’s hope with facility improvements coming.
Hear from Eric Lang on the transfer rule, not for or against it, just honest. Read and as always feedback is appreciated. AIC Hockey Head Coach Eric Lang on the one-time transfer rule: “Adapt or get run over”
I think from talking with Lang many times, its more of a worry than anything causal. We have heard from other reporters and such that the schools are the issue, but that's not always the case.. fresh start with a chance, or funding being cut from the player are the two reasons he supports it.Good article but how do you establish a causal link? We all know the role "family advisors" play in the recruiting world....they are the link to coaching staffs as they recruit the best 15-17 year old players. Contact is often made between the advisor and the coaching staff about the intentions of a "represented" player well before the players second semester of his sophomore year of high school and what does or can the NCAA really do about it? The same dynamics will apply to the transfer portal. An "advisor' will let anyone who wants to "listen" that a said player has entered the portal and is looking at certain programs. There will be little the NCAA can or will want to do about such situations. The new transfer portal is a step in the right direction for the "student" athletes rights as a player but let's be honest, it will create an even bigger divide between the haves and have nots. The lower end programs may very well turn into feeder teams for the power conferences.

Coast To Coast: AHA, WCHA Alum Featured In Pro Playoff Pushes
As professional teams gear up for the postseason, we check in on Atlantic Hockey and WCHA alumni impacting the leagues.
May 4, 2021 by Jacob Messing
... Despite being cut down to nearly half of its typical size, the 2020-21 ECHL season has been filled with prominent production from young players still developing outside of their Atlantic Hockey and WCHA careers. The number of alumni still on the ice shows the AHA and WCHA have developed more than just depth in a 14-team league.
On the backend, rookies Mike Lee [Indy] and Philip Beaulieu [Allen] have had encouraging seasons. Lee was the breakout star for Sacred Heart’s historic 2019-20 season robbed by the pandemic. Lee is ninth in per-game defensive scoring — minimum 10 games played — this season as a rookie for the third-place Indy Fuel, still much in reach of the top spot in the East. ...
