2 firsts still and a cup with a strong roster for the next few years at least. Potentially recoup some picks for trading UFA rights to.

I actually like how they use picks to get nhl players to help NOW when they havnt been good at all in drafting. Too many teams hoard picks Imo.

They seem to be great at identifying undervalued players that fit the system. No picks willl catch up to them eventually but for now it's keeping the roster in the top tier.

Imagine not using the 2nds to get Toews or even Bura. Or Lehkonen, or Cogs etc.

HFBoards is absolutely obsessed with potential compared to good, established players.

It must feel so rewarding to be an amateur scout for the Avs.

Btw as bad as the Avs pick chart looks, I'd take it over Florida's. In the next 3 drafts they have no 1sts, one 2nd, and two 3rds. Also a bunch of late round picks but those are next to worthless. Having no firsts and only one 2nd is gonna make it tough for them to be players at the TDL the next couple of years.
It's also good because you never know when you might have a legendarily bad injury season. If Makar and MacKinnon need season ending surgeries in November and your Goalie is Hunter Miska, you still have your first. Always important to hold onto that until the deadline if at all possible.
