let me know when Captain Purple Pants makes a trade that helps his team make the playoffs or makes a push for the playoffs. easy to be a seller at trade deadline. almost everyone over pays. at the end of the year he will again talk about injuries and increased assets. i love it. please Geoff give him a ten year extension

Some of the comments in this thread .

Enjoy the 58th pick in the draft. We'll take our 7th D. Not sure what the problem is.

It's more shock that Bergevin was able to trade a guy we traded a 4th for for a 2nd & conditional 4th. Trust me, Montreal needs all the draft picks they can get because their drafting & developing sucks. It's another top 60 pick for us.

Scandella is pretty vanilla as a player. Good pker though. He immediately helped us in that department. Can't do anything offensively, but he worked really well and gave confidence to our kids when he played with him. A "helps settle them down" kind of D

Low key, low maintenance player.

As much as Bergevin has proven to be a twit GM, he knocked it out of the park with this one.

It seems most in this thread have totally neglected the retention portion of this deal--which has a pretty huge impact for the Blues and the valuation involved. This deal doesn't really say a ton about Botterill.

Scandella retained: 2mil. DeMelo: 900k. DeMelo better player.

DeMelo is better than Scandella, and got just a third.

A GM made a mistake here.

Of course, this neglects two important factors: one, salary retention; second, style preference. It would make sense that the Blues would prefer Scandella to DeMelo.

 Sure it was .You just hate it when the Habs fleece another team as per your post.:D
The point is they did not fleece, it's a good return and good and smart use of our cap space. Holding on to 2 mil increased his value from a 3rd to a 2nd.

While many don't want to admit it, Bergevin's one of the best-trading GMs in all of NHL.
If the guy had any kind of decent drafting and development teams the Habs would be a perennial contender. But we haven't had drafted an impact player in the first round since....?

Scandella is better offensively than DeMelo.
But DeMelo is a better player than Scandella.
But for the playoffs, Scandella is worth a little bit more than DeMelo
playoffs
40 games vs 10 games
9 pts vs 1pts ..

Fire Botterill. The imbecile traded Scandella for a 4th and traded that 4th for Frolik.

Habs just got a 2nd and cond 4th.

Unbelievable this guy still has a job.

Maybe he can trade our 6th rounder for a later pick in the 6th round, again. Straight up.

What a genius.

He could be the best trading GM in the world but when you have no plan, it's worth nothing.

But anyways, that's why I don't agree he's one of the worst GM in the NHL, he's too good at trades usually.
