I think he’s played around 30 games this year. In 2011 he played 36 in the regular season and didn’t get his name on the cup. How many playoff games would he have needed to play?

There needs to be a thread about noted tough guy Steven Kampfer.

I am happy with his play so far and is a great guy to have as a #8 defenseman. Knowing the injuries this team always has on D, I would expect him to get 40ish games this year.
Sorry to quote myself but my prediction from October was pretty accurate (he’ll likely end up with 35-38 games played).

He's done a decent job for the role. The longer he plays, though, the easier it is to see why he hasn't stuck as an NHL regular. Great guy for spot duty, though. It could have been much worse.

He is what he is and he's done his job. Nothing unexpected from him if you ask me.

Curious about next year, might need another guy in that 8 role. Clifton needs to play and they have all seven guys back and under contract.

I'm not sure why no one hasn't posted anything here. Scored his 1st playoff goal in just his 2nd playoff game last night.
Played a solid rookie season with the Bruins when they won the cup in 2011. Was a healthy scratch in that cup run.
Made a History will be Made video for him.

My favorite Kampfer moment from that 2010-11 season was when Philadelphia returned to Boston for the first time since that heart-breaking Game 7 loss the year prior. It was a back-and-forth tilt with both teams trading shots, Philly took a 3-2 lead into the 3rd period when the Bruins scored 2 goals in just over a minute to take a lead, only to see Philly score 2 in under a min. to retake the lead. Marchand scored to tie it and Kampfer scored with just over a minute left in the 3rd to pull ahead 6-5 (Soupy Campbell scored an EN to make it 7-5).

I sat back after watching that game, a statement game IMO considering who the opponent was at the time, and said "wow this team may actually have what it takes to win it all" and I was sure we had a cup contender on our hands. That team had just no quit in it.

Name inscriptionsEdit

Currently, to qualify for automatic engraving, a player:
  1. Must have played, or have dressed as the backup goaltender, for at least half of the championship team's regular season games. OR:
  2. Must have played, or have dressed as the backup goaltender, for at least one game of the Stanley Cup Finals for the championship team, AND:
  3. Must be on the roster when the team wins the Stanley Cup

I think teams can also petition for specific players to get their names on it, too. I believe they did this with Marc Savard, no?

Kampfer hasn’t played enough regular season games, but he’d have a good case even if he doesn’t play another game. #winitforkampfer

I think what’s impressive with him is the amount of time away from playing in actual games and coming in still able to contribute.

Sure he’s a bit of a liability at times but that’s tough to get thrown into a playoff game after not playing since Round 1.

Anyway glad he put one in, never would have guessed that. Wasn’t too happy with him when he shoved his man into Tuukka though.

for a guy sitting on the sidelines for as long as he did, thought he played very well, the goal was just a bonus.

What I respect most about him is, from all I was reading about him, he shows up, works hard in practice and maintains a good attitude, for me, that is the sign of a good teammate and professional

Always thought he did a good job as the 7th guy. Everyone losing their minds when he plays makes me smile, it could be worse and we have seen that in the past. Guy is a pro, waiting his time and a good teammate.

He truly filled in for McAvoy the other night

He’s perfect 7th guy to carry

Pretty good little player and good teammate

I enjoy watching this version and I cringed when they got him

Love being wrong on this
Ya I actually thought the Bruins”had” to take him back as part of the deal. Boy was I wrong.

Never knew this. Sounds like his sister is a good source of perspective for him

'She’s tougher than anyone in this room': Why Steven...

Kristin Kampfer, 32, is two years older than her brother. Born with congenital heart disease, she’s been a lifelong inspiration for Steven, and serves as his source of motivation.
“She’s tougher than anyone in this room,” Kampfer said. “I’d put my sister up there as one of the toughest people I have ever met.”
Kristin has had 29 major surgeries in her life. It all started with open-heart surgery only a few days after she was born. At 16, she had titanium rods inserted into her back because of Scoliosis. The procedure took 10 hours. The rods extend the entire length of her spine and she was in a back brace for six months.

Yikes that is tough.
