There needs to be a thread about noted tough guy Steven Kampfer.

I am happy with his play so far and is a great guy to have as a #8 defenseman. Knowing the injuries this team always has on D, I would expect him to get 40ish games this year.

I remember this one game in particular during the cup year where Kampfer scored a late game-winner in a crazy one against Philly. Kinda nice to see him back on Boston even if he's just the 7th D.

He has been solid for us. I was skeptical and felt like we had another Paul Postma on our hands with him given the way his career has gone, but he's pretty decent. I still don't think he's better than 7 or 8 for us when everyone is healthy, but he is a nice guy to have when the injury **** hits the fan.

Never been much of a Kampfer fan but last night he showed how much he's grown as a player on the ice.

If he keeps things simple and keeps giving 100%, he can stay in the line up for quite some time

Agreed.

They can do (and have done) much worse for a 7th/8th defenseman.

He was solid yesterday. Makes very few mistakes which is exactly what you want in a 7th D

Just because your not known as a tough guy etc does not mean you cannot throw em.Kampfer last nite proved that.Reminded me of years ago and Canucks Stan Smyl at like 5ft 9 taking care of Gary Roberts.Underestimate a guy is first mistake.

Guys, he’s the 8th defenceman on this team. He keeps being referenced as the 7th in this thread.

This is technically correct, but what's the difference? He became the 7th when Krug went down. Now Miller is out with a broken hand, so Kamp looks like he's still the 7th for a while when Krug gets back. Charlie is still out. It would be a nice stroke of fortune if we have all 7 guys ahead of Kampfer on the depth chart healthy and ready to go for any significant stretch of time. Until that happens, Kampfer is our 7th dman.

With Vaakanainen and Lauzon looking good, does Kampfer play over them? It’s a hard decision because all three look good. I think I’d be more likely to play one of the kids if they’re playing just as good as the vet to get them more experience.

I would need to see more from both of them. They haven't played nearly enough. Now if Lauzon, and I'll just talk about Lauzon since UV is out right now, looks like he did in the first game then I'd probably go with him over Kampfer due to him being a potential long-term option down the road, or growing his value in a trade.

I always consider someone’s D “number” to be based on a fully healthy lineup. Chara is their 1, McAvoy 2, etc. Otherwise it would keep changing. Kampfer is 8 when everyone is healthy. Doesn’t really matter though of course.

I'd take McQuaid over him 10/10 and tremble in fear when he is on the ice.

He is a Bruin now so I hope he does well but him on the ice is not a good thing. That was a very nice hit against Philly at least.

Hated hated hated hated the acquisition

But he looks older than I remember and a lot better

What I’ve seen is exactly what you want in a 7th Defenseman so far

He is a plus skater with good offensive instincts and doesn’t lack for confidence and is a fantastic cap hit

He gets 2 thumbs up so far

Kampfer has really surprised me. If you look at his career lately he hasn’t played that much in the NHL since he left Boston last time. I agree we need to see Lauzon more, but if he keeps up his solid, physical play I hope he sticks. Kampfer is really making the Mcquaid trade look better. He went from an AHL throw in to a solid 7th defenseman. Meanwhile Mcquaid is injured, again.

I could do without him on the PP, but I think he's provided exactly what you expect for a #7-8 D. And he's doing it for $650K as opposed to $2-3M.
