mod edit:

JANUARY 10, 2015:
MASON INJURED vs. BOSTON
During the first period of the Flyers afternoon game vs. Boston, Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced that goaltender Steve Mason will not return due to a lower-body injury and will be evaluated further tomorrow.

Mason left the ice at 12:53 of the first period, stopping all five shots from the Bruins, with back up goaltender Ray Emery taking over duties.

----------

Mason has been bothered by back and leg injuries recently. He collapsed to the ice on his back and left the game with 12:53 left in the first period Saturday and was replaced by Ray Emery.

Mason said he "tweaked" an injury _ believed to be his right knee _ in Thursday's win over Washington. He said he felt better at practice Friday.

Recurrence of his back problems?

Here we go again. Wasn't Mason one of the three most cited as requiring a long-term injury for the Flyers to get down to McEichel level bad? Way to jinx him!

If it is long term, I'd love to see Stolarz get a look. I'm all about the Zepp feel-good story, but Stolie seems to be really excelling at the AHL level. Give him a shot.

Stolarz would be in a no win situations. WE call him up and he plays great and we get a worst draft pick, or he sucks and we get a top 5 pick.

Stolarz is way too young. If Mason if out for a couple of weeks or more, it's time to let Zepp audition to be next year's backup.

Stolarz is still 20 years old playing his first year of pro which he only has 14 games under his belt. He hasn't even taken the next step where he fully takes over the crease in the minors. Absolutely zero chance he would get the call up & that's the right call.

Time to run with Emery and Zepp and start losing some 7-6 games to help out G and Jake for the scoring lead!

Lol.

Feel bad for Mason though. Hope it isn't too major.

Ps...we have 8 games left until a full week off. Maybe shut him down until then. Don't need a lingering issue.

This sucks. Day after a really great performance, too.

Edit: Somewhat coincidental with Clement talking about his knees during last nights game. Maybe it's related to that play?

Meltzer also suggested that:

Mason ... said there was one moment in the game last night where he felt discomfort and the issue returned at practice today.

While not known for certain, the play in question may have been a point-blank save Mason made on Clark MacArthur in the third period
