I think he meant this past years draft (2005). In that case i would say sergei kostitsyn of the london knights. Drafted 200th overall and having a great year.

Matt Butcher, Vancouver's fifth round pick in '05 just finshed a 100+ point season with the Chilliwack Chiefs of the BCHL.

I've heard Vancouver's scouting is one of the worst in the league. Is there any truth to this?! :dunno:

i wouldn't say it's the worst right now, but throughout the history of the organization, the drafting is pretty horrible.

Hmm, kinda hard to decide who is a steal or not at the NHL level when most of the draftees haven't played much in the NHL this season. :dunno: :dunno:

I would think we'll know the steals from 2005 in the next 2 or 3 years.

My homer picks would be Garth Butchers son Matt who was mentioned above and Vincent, who could have went as high as a late first round pick. Had a slow start but a strong finish this year according to those that followed him.

Dominik Hasek takes the cake. 10th round pick.

Antero Niittymaki was selected in the 6th round IIRC.

Tomas Pospisil, 5th round, Atlanta, was scouted to be a low 1st early 2nd but he broke his leg halfway through the season no one wanted to touch him for some reaosn he fell to 5th, played amazing in the OHL, was being called a hybrid of Jussi Jokinen and Milan Hejduk, i think that's hyping him up a bit much but he's definately done to OHL goalies on breakaway/shootouts what jussi jokinen has done to NHL goaltenders in shootouts, incredable moves and uses his stickhandling abilities to freeze defencemen, he should turn out to be a huge steal for Atlanta!

Hasek is a steal, lots of average players are taken in the later rounds... Nittymaki is an average player.

He's talking about steals, no one knew about them and they were really studs, ie kipper, kaberle, a markov, prucha, lundqvist, zetterberg, etc, nittymaki isn;t in that league
