Dominik uher in the 5th round for the pens. I think he'll have a breakout season for Spokane with more ice time. He picked up his scoring in the second half of the season.

Well he did get passed in last years draft and Detriot didn't pick him up after a camp invite.

True, but he jumped from 19 points in 70 games to 81 points in 64 games. That's a CONSIDERABLE increase for anyone, much less a Dman.

I know there was some ample talk about him before the draft, so going in the 5th round, it looks like a nice gamble.

Especially for the Islanders, after having taken Jared Spurgeon a few years ago, who was then allowed to walk and promptly signed with Minnesota, where he even played a few games this year. Gotta think the Isles are hoping they've caught lightning in a bottle here.

They're also happy with Matt Martin's progress, who was an overager when picked. I'm thinking a number of teams see nothing wrong with taking 19 year olds in later rounds, especially when they've taken a considerable step in development between the ages of 18 and 19.

I would not be surprised if Scheifele turned out to be a better all around player than Couturier. Couturier is the sexier pick, obviously... but I've been around long enough to have seen questions like yours answered in time.

I've also been around long enough to have seen such questions later remain frustratingly unanswered.

Just have to wait and see; and trust your scouts know what they're doing.

From what I understand Catannaci was supposed to go 30-40 and the Sabres got him at 77. Watched some video of the kid and was majorly impressed. Great steal.

Steven Fogarty. Minny high school. 3rd round, 72nd pick. Big right-handed centerman. Great hands, very good shot, great vision. Supposedly the Rangers had him listed at the end of the 1st. A bigger and maybe better Derek Stepan.

I'm not that excited, seems to have shootout specialist written all over him. Ironic, since Holland wants to mothball shootouts.

I think Tvrdon looks like the steal for Detroit, or maybe Sproul. Those were the picks that got me excited. We'll have to wait and see about Xavier Ouellett(this name busts alot amiright?), Matthias Backman, and the 7th round Russian D.

In this deep of a draft, stop naming "steals" in the 1st round plz..

Draft is about pick location:

What does it normally take to move from 4th overall to 2nd overall.

Cattenacci was rated 50 and picked 77. So 77 and 59th would normally get you to a 50th pick.

so larsson rated #2 picked #4 what does it normally take to move from #4 to #2.

I think it would require the most assets for that move.

Therefore Larsson is the steal of the draft.

Anything else would require less to move up to an expected position.

Any player could have been taken anywhere. I'm confident Zibenajad is the best Swedish prospect in this draft and it was a steal to get him as the 6th team to pick. You'll get my point in the future when we look back to this draft.

Are you serious? You actually think that Zibenajad is better then both Landsekog and Larsson???? Give me a break.

I disagree somewhat. Also with the people saying a pick isn't a steal because they were picked exactly where they were ranked.

A steal is any player who develops more than they were expected to.

Jordan Eberle. Picked exactly where he was; steal of his draft, and in the first round.

We'll see if you still feel that way around Christmas. :sarcasm:

Even if he doesn't become the player he can, he has a hell of a lot better of a chance to most if not all players that go in the 3rd round...

Therefore, I won't be pissed/sad at all..

To me it is like we drafted Nikita Filatov in the 3rd round of the draft..

Round 4: Pick #106 (Michael St. Croix, W). He might have some of the best offensive skills in the draft and if he rounds out his defensive game, could be be a player similar to Patrice Bergeron.
