The breakdown,
January 4-6
February 9-5-1
March 4-3-1

So in 2019 Toronto went 17-14-2 (I did count this by hand so I'm pretty sure it's right)
The big picture is Toronto has been struggling all year, you can say February wasn't bad except a lot of those wins were against really weak teams (Anaheim, Colorado, Buffalo, Edmonton, Montreal x2 and .. Ottawa).
Toronto has been coasting on their strong start all season and I think it is very concerning

Very similar to the 2008 Sens. Outstanding start in October and November. Barely .500 from that point on and got swept in the first round.

At least that team went to the finals the previous season so they got an excuse.

Wonder what the record is since Jake, then Travis went down. Could have something to do with it.
Losing Kappy hurts too. Then again other teams seem to overcome their injuries (like the Bruins). Hope we can turn this around, not much time left.

Way I see things is the players have yet to buy into the concept of team defense. We rely far to heavily on Andersen to bail us out. The D has its warts on the RHD side but considering our PK has actually been very good the bast 5-6 games its hard to point to that.

The deployment of players is an issue IMO and that rests solely on Babcock. He ran Leivo out of town and he has been a .5 a game player in Vancouver. Leivo would have added some much needed size and would have been perfect in the 3/4th line role. Marleau gets way too much rope IMO and while he has earned it as a HOF player he is nowhere near the player he was last year. Holl while he has not been good has basically been set up to fail. Had he been playing 20+ minutes a night in the AHL I think his fill in roll up here would have been much different.

I wonder what happens this off-season if its again one and done.

Games get harder as the season goes on and softer teams tend to struggle with that.
This edition of the Leafs would never be described as a "do whatever it takes to win" kind of team.

I guess we'll find out how far skill and goaltending will take them.

Different hockey in the New Year every single season:

Any NHL season:

First few games of the season in October: Decently intense, over-officiated, lots of scoring.
Rest of October, November, early December: 50% strength intensity, more wide open, not very physical, hooking/holding/interference infractions called
late December to trade deadline: ramping up intensity, more physical, officials allow more stuff to go
post trade deadline: 100% strength intensity for teams chasing the playoffs, playoff safe teams let the foot off the gas a little bit, playoffs style officiating, rest of the league coasting to the end of the season

It sucks and we've been less than stellar.
Many reasons going around here for it but the beauty of it is, they have the power to change it.

Playoffs are what counts and we are 0-0.
But it would be nice for the team + the fans to gain some confidence from their play rather than keeping adding to the ineptitude.

It's almost like improvement doesn't go in a straight line.

3 seasons after finishing dead last we're miles ahead of the curve.
Not concerned at all.

Gms 01-10: 14pts (89.8sv%)
Gms 11-20: 14pts (94.2sv%)
Gms 21-30: 13pts (91.1sv%)
Gms 31-40: 13pts (89.9sv%)
Gms 41-50: 9pts (90.9sv%)
Gms 51-60: 13pts (91.9sv%)
Gms 61-70: 13pts (90.6sv%)

And now we're 1-1-0 in games 71 and 72 (83.4sv%).

so the Leafs have actually been incredibly consistent all year long, aside from one dip in january.

anyone trying to sell you a narrative about some long declining trend in the leafs performance this year, which just so happens to use an arbitrary cutoff date that begins precisely with the only slump of the season, is misleading you.

17-13-3, which is a .560 or a 92 point pace/borderline playoff team.

We all know this last week was very bad where they went 1-3-0.

So prior to last week, they were 16-10-3, which is .603 or a 99 point pace/comfortable playoff team.

IMO, 2019 breaks down like this so far:

January - bad 4-6-0
February to Early March, very good 12-4-3
Last week - very bad 1-3-0

Or, split the season into exact 3rds so far (24gms x 3):

Gms 01-24: 16-8-0, 32pts (92.1sv%)
Gms 25-48: 13-9-2, 28pts (90.3sv%)
Gms 49-72: 14-7-3, 31pts (90.7sv%)

The team doesn't play to its strengths and the stretch pass as we all know makes this club an ordinary club.

We need short passes with speed.

All we do is use the stretch pass and then dump it in the corner, what is the point?

Team I.D is speed and skill lets play up to that strength.

We've got to get better depth in the organization to overcome injuries like other teams do.....

A la Babs....
