What you dont see in those stats are horrendous rookie mistakes he still does.
He can play well and then in a second gift opponent a goal.
And they are like ugly mistakes.

He is just unreliable.

His nice advanced stats also don't lead to anything offensively . A really undersized mistake prone puckmover who doesn't produce much on offense is just unuseable. He had his chances and even a new school coach in Montgomery rather had his GM trade for a grizzled vet in Ben Lovejoy than use Honka again after he failed early in the season.

January 15th was the last time Honka saw any game action . Honka was scratched for four months straight. In the playoffs the coach rather put in AHL guys than even try out Honka when defenseman got injured.

God only 2 years ago, Stepan and a first was being floated on the NYR board as a possibly fair offer for Honka

What happened?

I bet Nill would rather just recoup draft picks than get a contract back so that he's got more ammo at the TDL again. My guess is Honka goes for whatever the maximum draft pick bid is the week before training camp starts.

It seems that he won't be reaching his potential at this point. They probably won't miss him if he is booted off the team.

Deal.

I can't figure out why Babcock seems to distrust Holl so much. Thought he had a brighter future with the Leafs but it doesn't seem like it.

Frankie Corrado v2.0. :dunno:
Look how Frankie Corrado turned out.

Holl is a good AHL defenceman. He's not an NHL caliber player though.

Martin Marincin?

Lol, no thanks.

Not sure if it's in Dallas's best interest to trade one struggling d-man who can't stick on the main roster, for an older, worse d-man who also can't stick on the main roster.
Marincin is much better than Holl and the same age.

Stars don't care . We don't want a contract for a player back we have to put somewhere in the AHL or NHL especially not one we don't need .

Stars have ~900k in capspace left and the roster is pretty set . If Honka is traded nothing that has to be put in the NHL or the AHL ( where the roster is also set and the team already has 10 defenseman most of which are under contract with Dallas ) will come back. Just picks and thats fine.

Stars defense in both the NHL and AHL is filled and with forwards and goalies its pretty much the same. The team currently also is already at 48 contract. We don't want any back if possible.
