Give me a legitimate reason backed up by something based in reality that Bennett deserves #1C minutes off of his play this year.
Aside from the stupid phantom fouls and brutal ticky tacks he keeps getting (which are due to bad officating), his play has been solid. His assist numbers are a bit misleading as he currently has one of the lowest IPP on the team (50.00%), something which will eventually trend towards his career avgs (~75%)
But do consider this:
Forwards with 180+ minutes logged, 5v5:
Sam Bennett is currently
second on the Flames in goals/60 (0.87)
Sam Bennett is currently
fourth on the Flames in shots/60 (7.26)
Sam Bennett is currently
third on the Flames in expected goals/60 (0.79)
Sam Bennett is currently
fourth on the Flames in penalties drawn/60 (0.87)
Sam Bennett is currently
fourth on the Flames in takeaways/60 (2.32)
Sam Bennett is currently
third on the Flames in shooting percentage (12.00)
Sam Bennett is currently
first on the Flames in on-ice Goals For % (66.67)
Sam Bennett is currently
fourth on the Flames in on-ice Expected Goals For % (52.30)
Basically, if our coach were smart enough to use Sam Bennett as 1C we would be playing like a cup contender because he's the center who most plays like a cup contending center. Flanking him with either Tkachuk/Lindholm or Gaudreau/Wheeler would be an instantly deadly line. He could focus on the things he does best (arguably the best of all our centers, ie 200 foot dominance) while guys like Monahan could focus on what they do best (shooting the puck when the opponent isn't paying attention).
Besides the point, I think Lindy is fine as a top line rw.
Lindy is fine if your other two top line players are playing at a high level and he can focus on tipping point shots, forechecking, cycling, and finishing the occasional wrister in the slot. He's not a creator though and that is evident.
His numbers so far this season are also highly misleading, his 5v5 shooting percentage (19.23%) is probably unsustainable and take that away you're basically relying on his two way play as even last year he wasn't really the driver of his line.
