So theyre slightly altered versions of the Emperor's royal guards. Man cant they think of anything new?

Pretty much and more stylised version of them. They are supposed to have a little more variety than the Emperor's version with different members of the guard using different weapons etc.

And another of the new species which are based on the Puffin. The Porg

Looks like that at least in part the will be animatronic.

In an interview with StarWars.com, resident Star Wars expert Pablo Hidalgo shared some more information about porgs, which will make their debut in The Last Jedi. He revealed their name was coined by director Rian Johnson, and they’re basically the Star Wars version of puffins. For example, they build nests for their eggs, and they can fly. They’re native to the island of Ahch-To, dwelling along the cliffs where Luke and Rey are training.

For those complaining about how everything looks so similar... take a look at pictures of clothing, technology, and vehicles in the 1980s. Hell, look at military uniforms. That's the time difference from these new episodes to the original trilogy.

Of course they're going to look similar.

The problem is they chose to do a rehash of the Empire instead of doing something different like Kylo Ren and Snoke beginning a resistance underground and a group of the Alliance trying to stop them. Make the scope small to start, then build it up to the final chapter. Perhaps the new evil resistance actually gains significant traction in the second movie to fall in with the "second part of a trilogy is always the darkest." This keeps there from being so many concepts that come off as copies of the OST.

Also these porgs seem kinda lame.

$20 says we find out Snoke is related in some way to one of the main cast. That's how empirery this movie is going to be.

Even if they chose your idea, the aesthetic of things would still need to be derived from the OT.

That would have been cool. Snoke and Ren leading a shadowy group of terrorists hellbent on restoring the Empire to it's former glory. Basically they would be like the rebels in the OT except the roles would be reversed. Would have been more fresh instead of starting where the First Order is already basically the empire 2.0. Hell they even already had a death star of their own with Starkiller base.
