So here we have Buffalo Sabres visiting Montreal Canadiens. The Sabres are Roger Crozier (1) and Jim Schoenfeld (6), the Canadien is Yvon Cournoyer (12). That narrows the search to two possibilities:

1.Stanley Cup 1973, Round 1, Game 5, April 10, Montreal - Buffalo 2:3 (OT)

2.Stanley Cup 1975, Semifinal, Game 3, May 1, Montreal - Buffalo 7:0

Is there any way to determine which game it was? If I had to guess, I would say 1975, if only because it was a more important game (semifinal), and because it's easier to find other pics from that series than the 1973 one online, period.

As a stamp collector whose hockey stamp collection is nearly comprehensive, I have seen way more bizarro situations. A stamp issued for one contest can depict some other contest from long before easily.

.... It's just that they aren't in any way related (other than depicting hockey, which is only part of Winter Olympics).

I mean, that would be like, I don't know, South Africa releasing a stamp commemorating the Declaration of Independance of the United States, while showing the Sagrada Familia instead.

You'd be surprised how many Olympic stamps depict non-Olympic hockey competitions, including NHL.

And not just hockey. It's quite normal for an Olympic stamp to depict a non-Olympic contest in order to illustrate a specific Olympic sport.

Is it just me, or could that picture be depicted from any game from 1972-'76? Crozier was a Sabre those years while Schoenfeld and Cournoyer were with their respective teams during that time and then some. Why are we so sure it is narrowed down to just those two games? There would have been plenty of times the Sabres visited the Habs.

Oh, I know. But I went through all them, and those two games are the only ones in which Crozier, Schoenfeld and Cournoyer all played.

Well, Bruce Hood indeed reffed the 1973 game. Art Skov reffed the 1975 one.

Yeah... it's definitely Hood! Looks like him, and not like balding Skov at all.

I think we have a winner!

Thank you all!

Plus, McCauley is not really an option, we are choosing between Hood and Skov.

Wow.............really? I guess that makes sense since Crozier wasn't always the starter those years, or he was injured.
