One metric I have used over the years is points LOST and the Bruins after 9 games have lost 8.

Toronto has lost 9 points after 12, Tampa Bay has lost 8 after 11. Florida has lost ONE point after 11.

Poutineville has lost 20 after 13. :DD

The one worrisome trend for the Bruins is the road record.

At least the B's have FOUR games this week with Edmonton looking to be the toughest test BUT after they Montreal at home next Sunday THEY HAVE FIVE DAYS OFF :banghead:

The upcoming schedule are all winnable games for the Bruins, but they can't let up especially when they have the lead.

A week later the points lost metric looks better

Bruins after 13 games are at -10

The schedule is whacky and somebody at the NHL told me the Bruins are victims of the Islanders' situation as they are still on a 13 game road trip to start the season. Somehow the schedule affected the algorithm the NHL computers used.

But my NHL friend said the Bruins looked at the schedule and said fine so......

Did the Rask situation play into this? :dunno:

2 weeks from now we will have a better idea of where the season is going

The Western Canada road trip next week could be difficult but this week there are no layups either.

We are beginning to see some separation

The Bruins will do no worse than 4th in the Atlantic so to make the playoffs they have to stay ahead of the 5th team in the Metro - that is still tight but the collapse of Philadelphia bodes well for the B's. The Islanders are on life support.

Feels like it’s going to take .600 hockey or 98 points to snag a wild card.

They’re right on pace if the goal is to just get in, and see how you match up in the playoffs.

I don’t love it, but we’ll see how things pan out. It’ll be interesting to see what this club looks like after the TDL.

I am not bothering to do the math but is this projection
based strictly on current win % w/o accounting for
remaining games at home or road?

If its based on just current win% in regards to NYI
this model doesn't apply. It also overstatees
Boston's total by a few points.

The Bruins currently have 5 games in hand on Toronto IF they were to win all 5 they would be tied in points.

The Bruins have 6 new players on the roster, 7 if you include Hall. It may take half a year or longer for them to gel. Remember St. Louis was dead last in the league for a while after Christmas the year they won the cup.

This Bruins team isn't as bad as it has looked, but at the same time it isn't as strong as it could be with a move or two.

Anytime you take 5 points on the Western Canada trip you can't complain. I will be honest as I thought it was possible for the B's to get 0 points on this trip. I was hoping for 3 - FIVE :vhappy:

This is where the POINTS LOST metric takes hold

The Bruins are at -18 tied with Toronto but have played 5 less games
Montreal is already at -43

The Bruins at WORST will finish 4th in the Atlantic and secure a wild card.

I never really thought of the 'points lost metric'
Leafs have an almost identical record and the Bruins would have to be perfect their next 5 games to match.

I guess this is as good a thread as any to post this, heading into today's slate of games..

Just to add a bit of perspective:

Over each team's last 13 games played, the Bruins are tied for 8th place in the NHL in points percentage (.692). They have earned 8 regulation wins in those 13 games. Only the Rangers (10), Avalanche (10), Maple Leafs (9), Penguins (9), and Stars (9) have more in that duration.

The Bruins are also 2nd in goals allowed and Save% (28 / .933) trailing only the Penguins (20 / .945) in that span.

They’re above the line, and it’s difficult to envision them falling below barring unforeseen injuries or illness.

They may be infuriating to watch at times, but it’s hard to imagine any major shake ups so long as they remain safely in a WC spot.

They’re clearly a rung above the Detroits of the world, and below the Tampas.

Now, the question becomes to what extent do they tweak this roster?

Rask is the first add.

Do they deal DeBrusk? Do they look to upgrade up front or on D?
