Totally expecting us to pass NJ and CBJ after the Olympic break and finish the season in the 4-6 spot.

Yesterday was totally catastrophic by results. All the teams who should have lost won, and we lost. And now Wings dropped to 10th spot in east with playoff probability.

It's the second time we have been dropped under the 8th spot. First time was before the last Chicago game. In all other phases of the season, we haven been at eastern TOP8.

I wish we didn't have to wait, though.

Every time I watch a game hoping for a little breathing room in the standings, the Wings always put me back into worry-mode.

Yep, really the only positive from yesterday was that the Canes, Jackets & Devils lost. Our next 5 games are against WSH , WSH, VAN, FLA, TBL really we need to get 7 or 8 points to make sure that we're in a playoff spot. If we can beat the Caps twice we'll get a nice 5 point cushion over them which could be huge down the stretch. Sadly if we're still missing Datsyuk, Zetterberg & Franzen our only real chance of winning is if Howard is able to play ridiculously well

In the end it wouldn't surprise me to see us in the 2nd wild card spot after these 5 games but I also wouldn't be shocked if we were in 11-13th either.

Still on the Wild Card position. Looks like Montreal is coming down, but Toronto looks a real deal right now. They are playing great hockey.

So Montreal (and keeping Ottawa behind) is the target, we are 4 points behind 1 game in hand. 3 games against them still left. Those are crucial ones to win and decide this seasons destiny. Those have to be won on regular time to leave them without points. First meeting of those three games against the Canadiens is right after the Olympics.

With of the hypotheticals out there of different point systems the current one is the only one that has the Wings as a playoff team. As much as I hate the loser point it's good thing it's being used.

In old system, 2 point for win - 1p for tie - 0 points for loss, we look ever better.

That's a great system to measure the "real" power between teams, because it takes off the shootout and that 4-on-4 crap hockey in overtime.

It's tells more of who really plays realgud 5-on-5 hockey, like at the playoff-time the overtime is. Real hockey, no more shootouts saving Toronto there.

We have 3 games left before the Olympic break. Two of the 3 teams we're playing have been slumping so we should be able to come out of this with 4 points though really coming out with 6 out of 6 would be ideal.

You have to wonder if Datsyuk wasn't a veteran if he would have already been shutdown for the Olympics or if the Olympics weren't in Russia would he already have been shutdown. At this point he hasn't played hockey in over a month & he's slated to go into the Olympics as the #1C for Russia. As a Wings fan I'll be a bit annoyed if he's able to play 18-20+ minutes from the get go.

That gives 37% chance for playoffs. But that figure is inflated with our better start of the season.

My own belief is pretty near of 1%.

They look just so gassed mentally or something. Too much talent missing.

That site doesn't take into consideration the fact we are missing Dats and Z (and Helm and Weiss and Andersson and now Jurco?), and they simply base their info on mathematics.

I don't know the official number, but we are something like 2-8 or 2-9 when Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't play. This team is toast.
