does anyone remember the rumour in the mainstream media around 83-84 of Montreal offering Guy Lafleur and 1st rounder for Smyl which Harry Neale quickly and publicly rejected ?

I don't recall that rumour but I can see why Steamer wasn't traded, he was the heart and soul of his Canuck teams.

As it turned out the Habs drafted Petr Svoboda who was a good Dman for the Habs for 8 years and ended up being traded for Kevin Haller who wasn't anything special.
