Part 2 after Eric/Marc won fairly comfortably.

It's 2003. A genie gives you two options.

Your favourite team has the chance to pick Jordan Staal, with no strings attached.

Alternatively, you can flip a coin to see whether you get Eric Staal or Jared.

Which one do you go for?

Disregard contracts, but you get the player on your team for the entirety of their career.

I don't think this really moves my preference at all. It sort of moves the option in a more polarized direction, but from both ends.

Yes, the "downside" of losing and getting Jared is getting a lesser player than Marc. But like @Machinehead astutely pointed out in the other thread...if we take this to mean you're stuck with Eric/Marc or Eric/Jared in this case...in that situation, i'd almost prefer Jared over Marc. You can really "fail fast" and be done with him. Whereas Marc for the duration of his career...you're getting a lot of years of a bad defenceman on your team.

So swapping it for Jared sort of moves the needle at both ends, and ends up pretty much the same for me. You get a worse player if you lose this way, but you're also not stuck with a player so the penalty is lessened. Depending on exactly what the terms and conditions of this deal are.

This makes the call a lot closer for me, but I still think you go with the opportunity to get a 1C. Jordan's a solid addition to any team, but it's a lot easier to find a Jordan than an Eric.

Agreed with @biturbo19 that getting Jared actually gives you less risk because you can just bury him somehow.
