No they don't, they need good defensemen. Honka isn't better than what they already have.

If Honka isn't waiver exempt, this deal doesn't make any sense for the Penguins. They already have 8 NHL defensemen with Schultz healthy. They don't need another depth defenseman, they need better than what they already have. When healthy, they already have:

Dumoulin-Letang
Riikola-Schultz
Maatta-Johnson
Oleksiak-Ruhwedel

All of those guys minus Riikola are waiver eligible, and Riikola is better than Honka.

Does this mean that Oleksiak is not a regular anymore... I was hoping that he had been able to make the transition to a regular player... ala Nameth.

He’s played all but 1 game this season. Looks pretty decent most of the time.

Scored 3 goals in 7 games too (1 assist).

Good idea OP, could actually see that working for both sides

Not for the Pens. They have no use for Honka, who would be 8th on the depth list. Pens need an upgrade on D, not more depth.

2 things:

1. I'm in on this, and glad it's a trade prop that makes sense.
2. How ironic that Honka would play with Oleksiak?
