I'm not sure that his waiver status should really affect how he's viewed as a prospect. It might very well affect things like his trade value, but I don't think that's particularly relevant here. I mean, it'd be one thing if his running out of waiver exemption was happening under more common circumstances, since it'd mean he'd be two years older, but his whole situation is kind of unique. There just aren't really other players running out of waiver exemption at 21 without having established themselves in the NHL
