edit: if babs seriously chose Shore over timashov then that is borderline fire able offense on its own then couple it with his other terrible decisions. You cant keep a guy because "faceoffs" he adds absolutely zero else to the team

yep over 100 faceoffs the goat will only lose 6 more face offs than shore, that is not some unbelievable face off specialist. He is good not lose timashov good though

Sadly true. I can't see losing Timmer/Shore to keep Spezza based on play. But I do not like the way Babs handled it. You don't do that to a guy like Spezza - no class. The whole thing was very bdly managed.

It's weird seeing people say for the longest time your best defence is controlling the puck so you don't have to play defence. Spezza and our 4th line did that when Spezza and Petan were on our 4th line and our current 4th line does nothing except win faceoffs. I'm just a little confused as to why that doesn't matter all of a sudden? Are we still mad because Spezza was a Senator for his entire career or something? Just odd that a 700k player who didn't even ask for performance bonuses to hurt/complicate our cap situation any worse than it is already is being treated like he's a 7+ mil player. Another thing that's funny is we had 4th liners in the past who were better than what we currently got at suppressing shots and all that and they got ripped apart and shipped out of town. Now it's "Ok" because they can win faceoffs? I do feel bad for Tima having to play with Shore and Goat together because he could be so much more than he's already shown.

He has been good enough though? Find me a stat that says he's been god awful and that Shore deserves that spot over him? Please. Other then faceoff % find me a stat that says Shore is better for the job. Please don't say PK either because our PK is bottom of the league.

7 Hits to 2
Better GA/60 1.7 to 2.4

On a team that routinely is said to be too soft... Shore at least throws some hits, and blocks shots. Spezza is useless there.

Have either been good enough? Probably not. Probably could use a Mason Marchment type guy... but to quibble over which guy, who really isn't good enough, is marginally not good enough less than the other....

Well said. I am not even a big Spezza fan. But he really hasn't been outplayed by Shore. Just bothers me that Babcock made his mind up on the first day of camp. Not even the first game of the season. After 20 games if it wasn't working out. Perfect. Waive him. If people think the rest of the players in the league aren't paying attention they are kidding themselves.

Those aren't game breaking stats.

The hits stat isn't that far off if you look at hits per game. Spezza 0.3 and Shore 0.6 so barely a different there.

5 blocked shots to 3 with 3 more games played so again the blocks per game is pretty much the same.

None of these stats are that far off especially with Shore getting 3 more games played atm. The sad thing is when I take a quick glance over some stats you see Goat might be the worse of them 3.

I am so confused with what's going on. I hear that he is being waived to make room for Hyman.
Dubas is all over the map. Wasn't he the one who wanted him in the first place? Why did they bother signing him then?
There have been so many changes to the roster this year, it will be months before we get some chemistry.

He was worth the gamble - it literally didn't harm the Leafs at all.

What I find funny is the amount of people who are debating between Shore and Spezza when neither should be on the team once Hyman is back. Drop both and call Marincin back up after he clears.

Timashov has been far better than both and the only advantage that a Shore/Spezza has is that they can take RH faceoffs. Guess what? So can Hyman... And he can actually stay out on a PK.

Petan might be the easiest to trade out of the bunch because he's clearly the best player out of the bunch and has the most potential to make an impact.
