So far as it's possible (and we've still got at least until next Thursday for this kind of thing) -- and considerate of the manifold of variables involved in each particular case -- would anyone care to speculate as to the likely 'arrival' date of the following goalie prospects (i.e., the season in which they will assume the reigns as the number one goalie for their/some NHL team -- perhaps 'assumption' date would better capture it)?

Lehtonen
Toivonen
Emery
Ouellet
Bryzgalov
Leclaire
LeNeveu
Ahonen
Harding
Niitymaki
Schwarz
Deslauriers
Montoya (and yes, see next name)
Lundqvist (and yes, see previous name)

(forgot one, ups): Ward

Well, if Harding recovers, it might be in 2005-2006 or 2006-2007 when Fernandez and or Roloson leaves.

Mike O'Connell said over the summer that Hannu Toivonen was likely to be the backup for Andrew Raycroft this season. I was kind of surprised since I thought Hannu would be better served with a whole season as the clear-cut #1 in the AHL (Tim Thomas played the majority of the games in net last season). The lockout has made that a moot point at the moment but in terms of ETA, Toivonen will probably be a backup in the NHL whenever it resumes. It should be interesting to see the competition for the #1 spot between him and Raycroft in a year or two.

Ouellet is going to be the backup whenever the season starts.

Maybe taking 30 starts from Olie.

If he does well, I could see Kolzig being dealt at the deadline and Ouellet being the main guy from there out.

If he falters a bit, Kolzig might still be dealt, but in the offseason a Felix Potvin or Sean Burke might be brought in to help guide the youngster in with a half and half type year.

If he looks real bad, Kolzig will carry the load.

Bryzgalov - 2005/06
Leclaire - 2006/07
LeNeveu - 2007/08
Ahonen - 2006/07 (simply because NJ is in no hurry with this guy)
Harding - 2007/08 (hopefully he can recover)
Niitymaki - 2006/07
Schwarz - 2008/09+
Deslauriers - 2007/08

Montoya - 2006/07 (He was almost signed this year. Michigan isn't playing well but from all accounts he is. He's ready to go to the AHL.)
Lundqvist - 2005/06 (He could make the team out of TC but he'll probably play a few games in the minors before coming up)

There isnt a clearcut #1 in Phoenix so the only thing keeping Leneveu in the AHL after this year is a numbers game with the waivers. This year is his second in the AHL. Next season, in 2005-6 I'd expect him to pressure Boucher or Johnson for the backup role and hopefully mature into a starter in 2006-7 rather than 2007-8 if he is true NHL starter.

Reportedly Deslauriers is also already very close to playing in the NHL.

I think the earliest for Deslauriers is 06-07. He's getting some minutes here in Edmonton but Moss is the starter. I expect Deslauriers to be the starter for the Road Runners next year and after a season they'll see whether he's ready for the back-up job for the big club.

I don't think his injury is career threatening...

Grade 3 concussions are hard to really pin down. Some players return but not in full form, but some return as if they never had an injury. We'll have to wait and see if/when Harding returns and how good he'll be, if he can rebound from the injury or not.

BTW I think Harding could end up taking the backup position from Fernandez...
