Would this lockout, and it looks like its going to be a lengthy one, be so if the players didnt have a haven in europe, where many are now collecting a check (thereby helping to prolong this situation), and are instead here at home, hanging out and spending their savings, bored to death?

If that were the case, it would probably be over by now.

Maybe there will be a backlash by owners in a revamped NHL of the future, especially if the losses continue to mount. Afterall, there's enough talent here in north america.

Well , to play along with ya ...

IMO , if the nhl'ers were not allowed to play in the various euro leagues (just a fantasy statment , so dont get excited )there would obviously be more pressure on Goodenow to get something done .

I'm sure the guys who have decided not to play in europe , or anywhere else for that matter ; have concerns that perhaps their sense of urgency is at a level higher than those playing in europe .

IMO perhaps playing in Europe will be a less desireable option the longer this goes. It's a nice vacation for a few months, but I doubt the players want to stay there indefinitely.

If playing in Europe the rest of their finite careers is the best their union could come up with, than their union has failed them.
