Hello guys!
15.11 in the Oilers - Vegas match, McDavid made 1 shot on goal in pirst period and scored 2 goals in 3 perdiod. However one of those goals was a deflection from another player. By the rulebook, should McDavid get 1 shot for this or it is just a goal without an actual shot?
Thank you

All goals are by definition shots on goal.

If the puck was deflected by an Oiler before entering the net, then the shot on goal transfers to him.

If the puck was deflected by an opponent before entering the net, then the shot on goal remains with McDavid.
Not all goals are.
When last season Joe Thornton was tripped on his way to the empty net, he was awarded a goal without a shot.
When last season Micheal Haley lost the puck to Jack Eichel behind the net, but then Eichel mishandled it and shot it under Lehner pad, Haley was awarded a goal without a shot.
When a team on a delayed penalty scores a goal into its own empty net, also no shot is awarded.

But for the sake of this McDavid's case - yes such goals are considered SOG.
