just saw that the canucks board has done this every year since 2014, and I figure our board has some solid keyboard scouts. Basically without hindsight who would you select with our picks? I know it’s been almost a month since the draft but no hockey has been played since.

Avs picks:

4 - Bowen Byram
16 - Alex Newhook
47 - Drew Helleson
63 - Matthew Stienburg
78 - Alex Beaucage
140 - Sasha Mutala
171 - Luka Burzan
202 - Trent Miner

My picks:

4 - Bowen Byram
16 - Alex Newhook
47 - Albin Grewe
63 - Patrik Puistola
78 - Pavel Dorofeyev
140 - Kirill Slepets
171 - Quinn Schiemann
202 - Dustin Wolf

Who you got?

47) Helleson
63) Grewe
I'm not familiar with many of the lower rounds but I would have liked to take a flyer on Dustin Wolf especially since he dropped to the 7th round. I am pretty high on Beecher and if we could've traded up back into the 1st round I would've loved that but that was more then likely a pipe dream

4 - Trevor Zegras
16 - Peyton Krebs
47 - Vlad Kolyachonok
63 - Albin Grewe
78 - Aaron Huglen
140 - Mike Koster
171 - Ivan Drozdov
202 - Daniil Gutik

Zegras, I got a high end talent. Krebs was unexpected at 16 and was so far above the preferred defenseman still available, he had to be the selection... which leads into 47 with Kolyachonok. I wouldn't have had him at the highest ranked player, but was really sliding down on defenseman quickly so had to grab one (Kolyachonok and Helleson were tight, but I slightly prefer Kolyachonok... this would have been a big debate at the table). Thrilled with Grewe still being there at 63 as he's one of the guys I had ahead of Kolychonok and he slid (gamble pays off). At 78 another player slides that I have ahead of Kolychonok with Huglen... gamble pays off times 2. 140, I'm swinging for the fences with Koster... high end puck mover with lots and lots of skill, mediocre skating and small. Drozdov and Gutik are guys who have shown flashes and that late, I think that is the best you can hope for. Drozdov has been Belarus' best U20 player the last couple seasons (better than Protas IMO) and he has shown moments in the KHL. He needs to bulk up and get stronger, but if he does that he's a potential sleeper late. He gets the nod over Gutik late because I think there has been a better trend with his game and I feel more comfortable with him projecting into a role. Then at 202 I luck into Gutik... high end hands and creativity, but skating is bad and doesn't play with pace or urgency to his game. I'm selling myself on the idea that we can fix the stride and his pace will pick up on NA ice.

I come out of this draft very happy... through 78 I have at least 2nd round grades. The gamble of selecting a defensemen off my board, paid off big time. I would have been forcing picks at 63 and 78 otherwise and would have lost out on good forwards. The last three are moon shots with flaws, but all would rank in my top 80. Late round guys are all shots in the dark, but I feel I'm at least betting on something with each.

Here are mine :

#4 - Spencer Knight, G
#16 - Alex Newhook, C
#47 - Nicholas Robertson, RW
#63 - "The Swedish Buzzsaw" Albin Grewe, LW/RW
#78 - Daniil Gutik, LW
#140 - Martin Hugo Has, RD
#171 - Nicola Pasic, LW
#202 - Dmitri Tyuvilin, LD

I thought it was "who would the Avs had picked with your list" instead of "who would you have picked".

At #4, I would have have traded down 3-6 spots to draft Boldy or Knight and gained some draft capital. The rest I would have been pretty happy with.
