Once again though, how many people play (American) football as a participation sport?

Well, over 1 million boys played H.S. football last year, the total number of people who played any sort of football in 2007 was 6 million with about half of that playing it with regularity. I'd bet there's several million ex-players out there too. So there is a significant population of people out there who have played some sort of football at some level.

Let's face it: soccer is a bad version of hockey. You have the same basic premise, but with fewer scoring chances and interesting plays. .

I agree 100%.

But there isn't live NHL on at 9am on Saturday morning. So I don't need to pick 1, I can have both.

I was a hockey fan before I was a soccer fan. And long before that I was a baseball and basketball fan. But now soccer rules all for me.

Of course that could change if the Coyotes or some other sad-sack team finally moves to where it belongs and becomes the Nordiques. :naughty:
