I really don't get some Rangers fans fixation on JP. Maybe it'll all come together for him, maybe it won't - I have no idea. All I know is that if EDM drafted him in the 3rd round instead of 4 OA, no one outside of Edmonton would give a flying **** about this kid. Seems to me this contingent of Rangers fans are salivating over where he was drafted instead of what he currently is.

If Jesse had been drafted in the third round I legitimately think he’d have more value around here. Dominant in a very good league at 21, in most cases, would be cause for celebration.

Lias is a third liner

jesse has significantly more offensive potential and is crushing Liiga

not saying I’d trade the world for a crack at Jesse but if I’m Edmonton I’d want something more than a 1 for 1
“Crushing Liiga”. Lol, yeah he’s right up there with other NHL superstars like Juho Lammikko and Mika Pyorala. No one cares. It’s just Liiga.

You should probably check the stats on Scheifele again. He was pretty solid producer right from the beginning.

Johansen maybe but he produced better in the AHL than Andersson and in the NHL as well so neither is a great comparison.

Maybe like a Lars Eller type? Took him a while to establish himself. Never became a huge point producer but a nice piece on a cup winning team.

Neither of those guys are 21. He’s doubling the production of a recent high 2nd like Jesse Ylonen.

Imagine two neighbors, each with a dog that has taken a dump in its own yard. Each neighbor grabs a plastic bag and a shovel and scoops up the mess in his yard. They then walk to where their properties adjoin, silently exchange bags, and walk back into their respective houses.

That is this trade in a nutshell.

doesn't that make for a perfect "change of scenery" type trade?

The knock on Andersen is that he doesn't have NHL pace to his game. Can't see Oilers interested in him.

Lias is a massive plus-minus sinkhole in the AHL and NHL. How is he good defensively? His AHL numbers are awful too. He’s 20 year old AHL season should have been much higher. He’s going to play in Europe soon and probably not even score there either.

ditto Vesalainen. Your opinion then is that any prospect over 20 not crushing the NHL is worthless?
What does Vesalainen have to do with JP?

No, my opinion is “crushing it” in the 6th best league in the world doesn’t give him any more value than when we last saw him in the NHL playing awful with good players like RNH and McDavid. We know he can put up points in minor leagues after putting up 28 points in 39 games in the AHL.

If you do want to bring Vesalainen into this we can do that in the sense JP is making the same mistake Vesalainen did by going home crying to mommy to play in an inferior league, playing on a different size ice, using different systems and playing with players he won’t be playing with in the NHL. Neither player helped themselves going home.

What is his problem? He has a new GM, coach, and other management. Is the problem he can’t get along with his teammates? I can’t see it being a problem with the city. Are there 22 problems in that locker room? Or just one?

Similar to Yakupov and the Habs.

Regardless, Lias Andersson is a giant bust. If you can’t even put up points in the AHL, you are pretty much useless to me. It’s not really a difficult league for a physically mature player (18/19 year olds it’s different).

You could be right - I just don't get what all the fuss is about. It seems like every other post on the HFNYR boards are "Let's trade player x for JP" or "let's trade prospect y for JP". At this point, I see JP as a huge risk - if you can get him on the cheap, sure - you'd be an idiot not to do that, but some Rangers fans seem to be ready to offload anyone not named Kakko or Panarin for this kid (I'm exaggerating, but only slightly).

Sounds like a pretty even trade :dunno:

I bring Vesalainen into it because Jesse is hardly the first prospect to have scoring issues. Andersson is another example.

as for why... only Jesse and his agent know. I think the agent is a huge issue here actually

Be surprised if LA is anything more than a 4th liner at the NHL level.
He needs to become a faceoff specialist or excel at one of the special teams to become an elite bottom 6 player. Hopefully for NYR he works on that in AHL

You do know that these players are the same age and that Pulju has a doubled Anderssons ppg in NHL?

Rangers would need to add.
You know that one skates into his own players and the other doesn't, right?

All kidding aside, Lias was never given a real shot in the line-up and should have stayed in the AHL, but he had a good pre-season...

Once again I never said that. Can you just stick to my words.

Because I disagree that because a player “crushing it” in Liiga shows his value is increasing doesn’t mean I think “any prospect over 20 not crushing the NHL is worthless”. Get a grip. He should be “crushing it” in Liiga. That meets expectations.

No one cares. Still doesn’t help him score in the NHL.

either you’re really trying to devalue him or you have no idea about you’re talking about.

also, throw lias in Liiga and he’d be lucky to get 5 points, Jesse has lias’ career totals in JUST the 18/19 season, misuse and all

derek Stephan has 4 points in 12 games in Liiga during the lockout, guess he’s not worth much eh

Well Derek Stepan had 4 points in 12 games in Liiga during the lockout, so either he’s a fourth liner (and was back then) and not worth much or your way of looking at Liiga is completely wrong.

no one is saying jesse would come over to NA and be a PPG player, he just is heads above lias
