This is long but worth it.

This is Corb Denneny.

175px-Corbett_Denneny,_Toronto_Arenas.jpg

His brother Cy Denneny was more famous, but Corb was a pretty good player back in the 1910s and 1920s. He played in the first game in NHL history, scoring twice for the Toronto Arena Club in a 10-9 loss to the Montreal Wanderers just before Christmas, 1917.

By 1926, Corb had been playing out in the western pro league for a couple of years. He was enticed by the money to be made in the now-growing NHL, and made an attempt to come back via trade to Toronto. That trade, which was soon voided, also involved a much more obscure player named Leo Bourgeault.

Interestingly, even though the terms of that trade were nullified, Bourgeault didn't return to the prairie. He just stayed in the NHL and kept on playing. Was he actually traded... hard to say, but that strange situation produced a very interesting series of events.

1. January 24th, 1927, Bourgeault was traded to the Rangers for cash.
2. In 1930, the Rangers flipped Bourgeault to the Senators, again for cash.
3. On February 14, 1933, Bourgeault was packaged with Harold Starr to the Canadiens in exchange for Marty Burke and future considerations, in a strange trade that saw the future considerations (Nick Wasnie) take Burke's place on the Habs as he went back to Ottawa.

With the weird trades out of the way, I'll cut to the chase:

And I thought it was cool when my buddy figured out that the Cam Neely trade cost Vancouver Milan Lucic lol

Seriously though, this is pretty cool. You should post it on the main board.
