Like others have said, likely Scherbak.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he was a throw-in for a Pacioretty trade.

Drouin will always get a pass from most because of where he’s from.

Definitely Scherbak. But it could be a very short lived one cause he'll be traded quickly imo. I just can't see the media going too hard against the captain or the french super star. The best thing that will come out of the Weber trade is nobody will be able to blame Weber. He could play like crap he will remain M. Blameless Canada.

So after Scherbak it's hard to tell honestly. DLR will certainly be a cancer this year no doubt about it but he's not talented and like Scherbak wont be here for long. After Scherbak and DLR will be gone it will be MB's own team of blameless attitude guys so he will have painted himself into a corner without any excuses left.

It's not true that French Canadians are always forgiven by the media and local population.

Brisebois, Latendresse, and Desharnais all faced significant local criticism.

But those were not traded for a russian player. Blaming Drouin would be admitting that trading a russian away was a bad move and no way, absolutely no way, the media does that. Drouin will remain blameless and people will keep saying it was a good trade no matter what happens.

Why emphasize "skilled"?

The scapegoat can only be a top player on the team, so obviously they will be skilled...

1. Pacioretty

With all the rumors saying he wants out, the team wants him out, if he doesn't start scoring goals soon in the season, everyone is going to focus on him

2. Drouin

There's still a lot of expectation on him

3. Domi

New guy in town, he needs to show a lot especially when he only scored 9 goals last season and he's now playing on another team that doesn't score much

4. Scherbak

is an easy target at 22yo. There are many players from his draft year that have a full NHL season done. He hasn't. He hasn't shown much, only flashes.. and this team is so deep at wing that it's going to be hard to stick on the starting lineup on season's opener. But then, can you really make him a scapegoat if he doesn't play?

I dont see it being Scherby. Hes young and not part of the core. He isnt expected to do much. U cant make a rookie a scapegoat. Never seen that even in MTL.
Likely scapegoats will be price as the frustration boils over from last season. Pacs same reason unless traded. Then u have the likely Domi and Droiun. Yes Drouon is French Canadian and the darling of the French media but often were they pissed of his lack of efforts in many games last season and, altho slow to criticize, once they did, it was pretty rough.

If Price plays like he did last year it will 100 percent be him. If not Drouin is the obvious candidate to me. As others have said no one expects big things from Scherbak.
