It really depends on your age.

I liked some of the old stuff but I found it was pretty hokey too.

When I really started following was the mid 80s so it was Dunn, Hartman, Carvey, Lovitz, Miller, Jackson, Nealon.

I think you always have a bit of a soft spot for the cast that brought you into the show.

I PVR it every week and watch it on Sunday mornings and there's still some great stuff out there.

Definitely. The early 90s crew will always be my favorite in part for this reason.

So they are back in the studio this year. Will there be an audience? If so, will it be a full audience?

To be honest, I think we tend to remember only the highlights of the older shows. I’m in the group that favours Chase, Belushi, Murray, Radner etc. But I can also remember some pretty bad episodes from that era as well.

Right, 'cause the highlights are the only ones that stand the test of time. It's surprising when they play older episodes (even from the Farley or Farrell or Hader days) how many duds there are each episode. Just the nature of the best of having a week to write a sketch show.

SNL has always been hit or miss. When it is good, it can be great and vice versa.

I compare SNL to pro wrestling - it used to be that on most episodes there was a bit of crap mixed in with a lot of good stuff but now you have to wade through a bunch of crap to find the good stuff.

Very true. I’ve gone back and watched some shows from the early 90’s and there were definitely some dud sketches in there. I was really only remembering the good ones I guess.

Still no word on the host or musical guest for the October 3rd show. I would not be surprised if the host is a former cast member like Will Ferrel. Kristen Wiig or Jimmy Fallon. :dunno:

comes down to your age and which era you grew up with. Right now, I think it is a low point. Some interesting actors but now one along the lines of a Belushi, Murphy, Myers, Carver, Wigg, Sandler, and others who left their mark. Kate is close, but if you look at her character such as RGB or Ellen--they are really the same character--just with a slightly different spin

I tend to agree. No real all time great cast members in this cast like Ferrell, Hartman, Myers, Murphy etc. Mackinnon is great though. Very talented and versatile. I think being versatile is such an asset on that show. If you can do a lot of different things, you will get lots of air time.

Give it time. Before too long Kenan will OD on weed gummies and become a legend to future generations.

Looks like I was right about a former cast member hosting the season premiere. As for the musical guest - like most 50 year old white men I have no freaking idea who she is / they are so I'll do my usual thing and FF through the music segments.

I don't fall for publicity stunts.

Kate is the only talented cast member with Beck. Keenan is so so.
Keenan is legit one of the best SNL cast members of all time. He is not a 'star' in the Will Ferrell or Mike Meyers sense, but in no way are they in some class way above him when it comes to sketch comedy, that's for damn sure.

It's Kate and Keenan and the rest of the cast is a big fat dumpster fire

and Jason Sudekis.

IMO that was one of the all-time greatest casts, definitely an underrated period in show history.
Without a doubt. Once Fallon and Ferrell left and Tina, Amy, Will Forte, Seth, Andy and Keenan took over it was my all time favorite era, it's really not even close. And Bill Hader is the GOAT

So you don’t think Cecily Strong is good?

I hear that. Wasn’t being political or anything it’s just not even funny. At least to me

It’s overdone for sure. I feel for Baldwin because he only signed on to play Trump for a few episodes. Everyone thought he would lose, so the plan was for Baldwin to do it for like 4 episodes. Now it’s been four years. If Trump wins (oh god), I could see Baldwin stepping down from the role. Darrell Hammond could always take over.

It’s funny because even though SNL is winning awards and getting better ratings during the Trump presidency, I don’t feel the show is that great. I think more people are paying attention to it, but it wasn’t winning awards when Hader, Wiig, Samberg, Armisen etc. were there, but that’s a much better period in the shows history in my opinion.

Agreed. The previous batch of cast was much better. Still enjoy this cast though
