Slovenia has only 2 millions people. For this amount it is simply amazing, what can they do on the top international level in many sports.

Soccer: 2 times World Cup, 1 Euro
Handball: Bronze in 2017 World (man), many times on top tournaments
Basketball: Gold on man Euro
Volleyball: 2 time silver on Euro (man)
Tadej Pogačar, Primož Roglič : Cycling stars

And many many more others individuals. Plus women sports.

Actually, Iceland is even better. They only have 300 000 people and yet are good in soccer, handball and basketball.

Meh. Iceland got lucky with qualification groups and sucked big time at the final tournaments.

Not bad, but Norway has 521 Olympic medals with a population of 5 million.

Not arguing that Slovenia is better at sports than Norway, but many of the sports Norway is good at are medal rich and inflate the medal total.

121 of their medals come from cross country skiing, a sport where an athlete can win multiple medals at the same Olympics and where there are more than 10 events. All of their top 6 medal producing sports allow athletes to win multiple medals and 4 of those have more than 10 events per games. A country could be just as dominant at skeleton, hockey, and bobsleigh, but get far fewer medals due to there being fewer events. Another country could be good at freestyle skiing, but since athletes compete in only one event in that sport (unlike cross country) any great athletes produced wouldn't be able to win as many medals.
