Congrats to Slovakia. While not a successful tournament to be relegated would have been a complete disaster. There was an U18 tournament last week at which the Slovakian team did quite well. There are also quite a few 88 born players that will be back next year. So maybe next year will be a little different. By the way, does anyone have the link to the photo website that the IIHF site had on there home page until today?

Poor, poor Germany. I feel for those guys. What separates their tournament from fiasco and a place in the Quarter Finals is USA's over time goal against sweden (which was scored on a pretty suspect penalty call to boot). And now they get kicked out because of goal differential..

In my opinion, the fact that a team that beat one of the semifinalists got relegated is an argument FOR expansion of this tournament. It shows how tight this tournament is, behind the big three, USA, Canada and Russia, pretty much anybody can beat everybody else. Expansion should be to 12 teams, not more (16 like they have in the IIHF World Champs is too much).

Ah well.
But at least they get to celebrate promotions every two years. ;)

Won't be that easy next year though because the top line won't play anymore and the others just really aren't that good.

Shows pretty much the state of German hockey, our best German team for a quite a while and we're still getting relegated.
