San Jose put Jacob Middleton on waivers today since Nikolai Knyzhov took his job as the #6 D-man.

Jaros will probably serve as the #7 D-man in SJ and Middleton will either get claimed by another team or clear waivers and get sent to the taxi squad or the AHL.

1st Pair LD Vlasic RD Karlsson
2nd Pair LD Ferraro RD Burns
3rd Pair LD Knyzhov RD Simek
Extra: RD Jaros

Taxi: RD Meloche and LD Pasichnuk or (LD Middleton if not claimed).

Jaros should start in the minors since that's where he was before the trade. They don't have to make him the 7D if they don't want to. They may have needed the roster spot for Balcers since his quarantine should be done when this completes. They may give him a shot as the extra. They may just be doing it for the cap dollars. They can send down Handemark to bring up any of Middleton, Jaros, Pasichnuk, or Meloche. We'll see.

Kopacka's day so far:
Anaheim: Go Packa ur bags ur going to San Jose
San Jose: Go Packa ur bags ur going to Ottawa.
Ottawa: Go Packa ur bags ur going to Belleville

Sharks are trying to build a team using all of Ottawa's spare parts; Senators are trying to build a team using all of San Jose's draft picks.

What’s the point of a pointless 3 team trade like this lol. The best piece is the pick

Kopacka makes exactly $7,500 less than Jaros this year

Melnyk must have gotten hit hard by the Gamestop squeeze today, need to find all the pennies in the couch

probably trying to take the arena wifi provider to arbitration too

Jaros makes 250k in the minors. Kopacka makes 57.5k in the minors. Little bit more than 7500.

Christian Jaros - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Jack Kopacka - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

CapFriendly has Jaros on a two way deal at 750K/250K. While Kopacka is on a two way deal at 700K/57.5K. The difference in AHL salary is (a prorated) $192,500.

Just to reiterate from the first page...

Ottawa: They save whatever the prorated amount is left of the $192,500 difference between Jaros/Kopacka's AHL deals. As much as we like to use sports to escape reality, many teams are going to lose money this year. I'm sure Ottawa's owner is okay with saving six figures if it means losing a taxi squad player who might not have been in the lineup any time soon.

San Jose: They probably wanted to give some of their young D a look in training camp to see if they were NHL ready. Maybe they now feel like Brinson Pasichnuk and Ryan Merkley need additional AHL time. So they swap an AHL defender in Trevor Carrick for a potential #6/#7 NHL defender in Jaros.

Anaheim: They trade an average/below average AHL forward for an above average AHL defender. As a bonus, Carrick's brother is the team captain of the AHL team.

TL;DR: Ottawa saves money, San Jose gets a slight NHL D upgrade, and Anaheim gets a slight AHL D upgrade. Not every trade is going to be a blockbuster.

I was just quoting NHL contract numbers if they get called but you're right

and I wouldn't put it past melnyk to find a way to save $200k in the minors just for the sake of it

he's probably also replacing the Coca Cola in the vending machines with Faygo

Would be a smart choice, Faygo is awesome.
