Jaros was a good AHL player / getting some NHL time last season. This other guy played in the ECHL last season

Easy win for SJ?

Why even bother going through the headaches and logistics of a three-way deal when these are the pieces you're moving?

Looks like it was something the Sharks facilitated and they have a need for a player like Jaros. Doesn't seem like much of a headache to undertake.

I imagine Wilson has had his eye on him for awhile.

That's just part of being a GM, as much as we like to think it's all blockbuster trades and scouting first round picks, you have to sort out the bottom of your AHL rosters too.

Ottawa: Jaros was set to make 250K in the minors where Kopacka will make 57K. For an owner who might not set the biggest budget, you just saved a decent chunk without affecting your NHL roster.

San Jose: Not sure if the Sharks view Jaros as a possible 3rd pair RD at the NHL level. So they potentially swapped out an AHL D for an NHL D.

Anaheim: Gulls only had one RD on the roster at the moment, so Carrick filled a need there. Carrick's brother is captain of the Gulls, so maybe that's a bonus to get them reunited.

It looks like that the Sharks wanted a depth RHD with Merkley deemed not NHL-ready yet. Jaros fits the bill, but Ottawa wanted a forward and not a defenseman. Hence the three-way to unite Carrick with his brother. A minor deal, but could have some NHL implications if San Jose wants to play a righty on the third pair rather than two lefties.
