A 1 year, 2 way deal doesn’t seem like they have faith in Makiniemi long term.
Chrona and Romanov are also on the Sharks goalie depth charts.
Makiniemi should get the bulk of the starts with the AHL Barracuda.

The Jamison era pre-lockout, maybe. But even after Nabokov was inconsistent from year to year. He was also outplayed by Niemi when they went head to head in the playoffs.
