Its gotta be tough for the players if the owners do as you suggest and make this great gesture for the state of the game and play out the 2nd half of the system under the old rules while continuing the groundwork for impasse. It would seem a good time to make a deal. Most people seem to think its there. So whats the gesture Goodenow has to make as a first step?

Ray Ferraro was making the point that there are some things you fight for. And other times you pick your spots.
