    Dumont was a waiver pickup....

You know who else was a waiver pickup? Paajarvi. Another great find.

That would be such a stupid chirp though, telling a 19 year old rookie that his older brother is a better player. I could see if it was the other way around.

He was royally screwed by Vancouver who would sit him for 10 days or so and then throw him into a game against teams like Tampa or Nashville with a tired team in front of him. I hope he gets a contract with somebody next year. He has earned it.

You just know Dorion is going to botch the Nilsson situation.

Hammond goes on miracle run, but clock strikes midnight by seasons end - give that man a contract! (wasn't a bad one though, to be fair)
Condon plays solid, but returns to the norm by seasons end - give that man a contract! (a baaad one at that)
Nilsson - starts off great, if he finishes strong Dorion will let him walk. If he struggles, he gets a 2 year contract.

    Any takers?

Nilsson has been great, I hope he keeps it up. Been fun watching him and he's been a really solid goalie.

With the Sens needing to reach the cap floor until the magical 21 window for unparralled success, I think a two year contract at good back up money makes sense and doesn’t hurt the team even if he flops.

I feel more confident with Nilsson in net than I've been with any Senators goalie in a long time. We'll see how long that lasts.

Have you ever played hockey? The chirps can be vicious. Especially in pro. Nothing is out of bounds.

And yes it was lip reading.

Everyone is talking about how great Nilsson has been playing (and he has) and I am just sitting here thinking about how we gave up 45 SOG to the (maybe) worst team in the league.

I think it's time to go with the hot hand.

Boucher knows his future as a Coach is in the balance, and needs to play Nilsson Saturday.

If he starts Anderson, it has to on a short leash.

Exactly my point, which is why I think they are probably chirping him about something worse, instead of "Hey Brady, you're older brother who's been in the league 3 years is a better hockey player right now!"

Yeah you don't really understand how competitive hockey players are. If someone said that to another player it would set them off.

People were saying the same thing about Condon. I was never convinced, and he ended up a problem, not just because he was overpaid for too long, but because there's only 2 goalie spots on the NHL team so if one of them is suddenly not NHL caliber anymore, you're in trouble. And since our goalie depth was a journeyman vet and 2 rookies with no NHL experience, let's say it wasn't ideal.

Getting Nilsson is what was needed much earlier than that, like as soon as they saw Condon between the pipes. I mean, a goalie (coach) himself should be able to see if a goalie is going to be good or not. Why did they believe that Hammond and Condon were going to be good for the NHL, outside of small stretches?

I never understood that "didn't notice him" stuff... I guess it depends on how observing you are when watching a game, because even if I haven't watched much Sens hockey since the game in Colorado and my "care meter" is not very high atm, I noticed Goloubef everytime he was near the puck and I only watched the second half of the 1st period. Just my opinion, but it might explain why some people target some players that are more noticeable (due to roles and TOI for example) and are on their back all the time.

Condon was really good for a stretch two years ago when Anderson was out as well. More games to come to evaluate further.

    Score effects

Go look at the shot count of our previous game against Toronto

    Outshot badly = win games

Nice to win a game. Sad, funeral-like atmosphere last night. It was depressing, as this situation with the heart of the team on the verge of leaving is clearly weighing on everyone's minds. Mrs. Richardson didn't even get a standing O when she came out for puck drop like in year's past. Goals scored didn't even get people up out of their seats. Brutal, brutal atmosphere.

Anyways, happy for Brady. He deserved that one. Tierney was good. Bobby Ryan has been playing great two way hockey and I don't think his commitment to playing without the puck has been this good. I have a feeling that Boucher may have said something along the lines of "if you want to play with Duchene..." kind of deal.

Chabot was awesome, what a treat to watch. Getzlaf, Perry and Kesler, my goodness.

Yeah, we get outshot badly and lose games too though for the most part. I see your point I just don't think it relates to the Ottawa Senators.

So does this mean Nilsson's performance was a bit overhyped?

    We're 6-9-0 (.400) when outshooting the opponent
We're 14-19-5 (.434) when outshot by the opponent

and Nilsson's shutout might be overhyped a tiny bit. There's a huge difference between a controlled 45 save shutout, and a wild 45 save shutout.
