Giroux's 5on5 Points/60 was lower than Weise and VdV in 16-17.

To be fair to Claude, a lot of those struggles were due to the system the team was playing. Giroux at Center in that 16-17 system was basically used as a 3rd defensemen, rarely venturing deep into the offensive zone. Also I know you know this, but comparing his production to 4th liners isn't really fair either because the QoC he was going against was far more difficult.

Simmonds is significantly better than what he showed this year while playing thru all sorts of injuries.

Well he's not going to play on the 1st/2nd line anymore, he's expensive or going to be, not good at even strength, and a valuable trade asset.

Simmonds has been a 30 goal, 55-60 point player in his prime years. This season, injuries and all, he had an 82 game pace of 26 goals, 50 points, despite how much worse it felt. His raw stats weren't drastically off his norm. So, yes, with full health -- and given he will be getting hip surgery, I'm not sure if we can project that right away (but maybe) -- him scoring another 5 goals and 5-10 points seems realistic. How valuable those hypothetical extra 5-10 points are to this team to base short/long term decisions on is well worth debate.

But I'm not expecting him to score 40 more points than last year either, or more reasonably set career highs. He's a player of limited skills 5v5 who has always been at best rather average and linemate dependent. That caps upside. And, whatever the reason, we're dealing with two consecutive years of 4th line 5v5 numbers.

And that assumption he returns to being a 30 goal/55-60 point player treats all things equal in terms of usage -- and all things are not equal. Nolan Patrick could and very much should assume full PP1 duties next year. If he doesn't, it's not because he can't; it's to cater to Simmonds and justify his roster spot. Wayne also will slot in at 3RW next to.......well, we don't know but assuredly it won't be someone to the level of Patrick or Couturier, unless Diamond Dave wants to do his usual 2 game sample projection from this past playoffs with Couturier centering him. So, he might be healthy, but then you have to adjust his performance to 3RW/PP2 minutes. That could be 40 points.

Simmonds has been 19-20, 13-14, 12-16 at ES the last three years, to be fair we've been erratic at 3C, still, that is marginal 3rd line production.
While he's a top PP performer, with Patrick and Couts, and potentially Lindblom and in a few years Ratcliffe, Allison, Strome, that's not as valuable to the Flyers as to other teams.

On the other hand, it's not worth trading him for less than a top 20 pick (or equivalent), we have lots of depth in the future, and his value in 2018-19 in terms of building a solid 3rd line is real. If we aren't offered good value, we're better off letting him walk or trading him at the TDL if Voroybev and/or Rubtsov et al are ready to replace him. Problem is Voroybev, Rubtsov, Bunnaman, Twarynski are all LW/C types. Kase plays RW but shoots L.

The problem is if you have nagging injuries you can't preform anywhere your norm just like if you have a serious injury like poor Morin just had , when you come back you still are not right for some time after. Give Simmer next year and see how he preforms , if it is much better and you still want to trade him his value will be much higher. His value right now is not that high so trade value some on here projecting just is not realistic.

Pros: Love Wayne Train, love the physicality he brings, the PP points.
Cons: Not A Fast Skater, Contract deamnd too high for 3RW, his position.
Getting Older and Worn down, maybe time to move him like Schenn.
