The 2017 Fall Meeting of the Society for International Hockey Research will take place in the Montréal, Québec, on the weekend of November 24-26. This particular weekend has been chosen to coincide with the centennial of the National Hockey League, which was founded on November 26, 1917, at Montréal's Windsor Hotel. Members and non-members are welcome to attend; more information and registration is available at 2017 Fall Meeting.

This is great timing for the event (perhaps obviously) - I've always wanted to attend one of these, and I may be able to finally make it work this year. Thanks!

For those of you not aware of the Society for International Hockey Research, if you're an enthusiast of the History section, you should be. Here's a link:

Typical SIHR meeting profile

There is always a social gathering of attendees on Friday night; sometimes there is a speaker (former hockey player, coach, scout, etc) but mostly it's just a casual opportunity to make new friends and visit with established ones. One fun thing is that most attendees wear their favourite sweater (jersey if they are American ) or one that ties to the locale.
Saturday is a full day of presentations (usually by 3-4 hockey personalities and 6-7 members) followed by a group dinner. This year a number of us have been able to secure tickets for The Canadiens - Sabres game so the attendees will be going in two directions. The members' presentations reflect their area of interest and research across a broad spectrum of possible topics. The event is one of fellowship and information sharing and is neither a 'drink-em up' or 'academic high brow, event; something squarely in between.
Sometimes, there are more events or tours on the Sunday.
Please refer to the link for this year's details. One of the highlights is a tour of NHL Artifacts from Canada's Museum of History that has opened in Montreal to help celebrate one hundred years of NHL hockey. The last meeting was in Gatineau at the Museum and we toured the special exhibit that is still going on there - well worth the effort to see it if you like hockey history.
Hope that helps.

Sounds like a really fun time.... the Montreal Canadiens as well opened their own "Museum" & mini-hall of fame at the Bell Center
which looks well worth a visit. Article here from The Hockey News..... www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/100-years-of-memorabilia-on-display-at-canadiens-new-hall-of-fame

Actually the old Forum has been decorated in a historic motif featuring the Forum history and the Canadiens. On the upper levels you even get a sense of looking down at center ice.

Best of all it is free.
