Perhaps he isn't the greatest fit for the Flyers system, but why not take him on as a no-risk depth forward? He's still good with the puck and shouldn't cost much more than Ruslan Fedotenko. Thanks to accelerated buyout, he's the best player out there and cap space isn't an issue.

I'd rather try and offer sheet Kulikov. Rumors that Florida management is becoming irritated with his contract demands and disagree on what hes worth.

Give me Kulikov!

Yeah, might as well take a one year contract. This "having cap space" thing is odd.

Wouldn't mind him either, one year deal only. I was saying that in another thread....

I rather go after Gomez. Have Gomez center the 3rd or 4th line so we don't have to burn a year off of Laughton's ELC on a shortened season. Could probably bring him on a cheap deal one year reclamation contract too. A line of Gomez, Read, Simmer would be good in my opinion would also allow Couts to play a more offensive role. Again just my opinion.

Hartnell-Giroux-Briere*
Schenn-Couts-Vora*
Read-Gomez-Simmer
Feds-Talbot-Wellwood/Rinaldo/Sestito/Shelly

*denotes could switch

That's what I would roll with for EV lines. Gomez scores a handful of his points on the PP and if I remember correctly he was/is a decent PKer. Sure wouldn't hurt to take at shot at him. He'll probably end up with the Yotes or the Hawks though.

I think he'd be great having been there an all for a pretty young team. I also agree for going after kulikov and am betting that we do if things go on for much longer

I don't have a strong opinion about this one, although I am leaning more towards "no". But I don't think he's as bad as last years' stats suggest. Maybe he just needs to reinvent himself.

From what else was mentioned in the thread, I'd prefer both Kulikov and Redden, in that order, to Gomez.

I'd be shocked if Gomez isn't a Devil again with their current roster and his history there.

I am just not seeing this Kulikov offersheet fantasy. Would be great, but not going to happen.

Another reason it's easy to defend Briere's contract. Obviously Briere's is a little overpaid now but look at what we would have signed Gomez or Drury to that kind of deal.

No, he's soft and worthless. He has nothing left in his game and he cannot put up points. I'd rather go with Laughton or bring in Dominic Moore. Horrible idea.

NO-Mez!

So glad we chose Briere over both him and Drury and can't believe I actually wanted Gomez over Briere back then.....embarrassed to say now.

If hes dirt cheap, sign him, you never know...

This.

Get him on a cheap one year term. If it doesn't work out, who cares? If he's as bad as advertised, he won't be taking minutes away from anybody because he'll be cut. If he gets his **** together? Could have something.

Then he's not coming here, he's not that bad. His contract was just ridiculous.

are you joking? yes, he was that bad. have you seen his stats the last few years? he flatout sucks now. this team already has a good forward group anyway. there's no room for him even if he was halfway decent.

Have you? If you only focus on what players can't do, then a lot of skilled contributors are going to sneak right under your nose.

Gomez can still hang onto the puck and set up goals.

I think that's better than Zac Rinaldo's skill-set of flying around out of position and racking up penalty minutes.

This post is correct. Gomez at the insane dollar amount that he was making previous was the problem... not necessarily his play as a 3rd line center.

That said, I don't know the answer to this... it would be nice to see how Laughton can do before getting tied down by another contract.

With Briere hurt and Schenn penciled in on the wing, there's still room to sign Gomez and give Laughton a look-see. I would be surprised if Laughton is at the point developmentally where you have to save a spot for him in the forward lineup. Either he forces himself into the picture through 5 games or he doesn't.

Hartnell - Giroux - Schenn
Read - Couturier - Voracek
Talbot - Gomez - Simmonds
Fedotenko - Laughton - Wellwood

I'm not sure he is actually worth the distraction.

He can't produce offensively even if his life was depending on it, so he'd have to play 3rd or 4th line.
Couts is a better 3rd line center without doubt and I'd even rather stick with Fedotenko centering the 4th line. Flyers have enough PK specialists already - so again no urgent need to add Gomer.
As bad as his reputation is, he would probably refuse to sign as a spare forward because he will get a better offer from one of the bottom feeders.

i would totally make him an offer.worst case scenario he fills in for briere while hes out and then we eat his cap while the former stanley cup winner brings his experience to the ahl. hed be eligible to play in the playoffs and with the recall rule gone for injury depth which will be critical in the short season. 1 year and an overpayment of 3 mil
